Wood type manufacturer in New York. In 1864, Heber Wells, along with business partners Alexander Vanderburgh and Henry M. Low, purchased the wood type manufactory of the late E.R. Webb (successor to Wells & Webb). Operated successfully as Vanderburgh, Wells & Co until 1890, when Heber Wells took sole ownership. Continued under his own name until mid-1899 when he filed for bankruptcy. The firm and all of its holdings were purchased by Hamilton Manufacturing Co. later that year. [Shields]
