URW’s versions of Times and Times
New Roman, first created in 1982. There are many
versions. As of 2016, MyFonts lists three families:
Nimbus Roman D (Display) spans three weights plus
italics.
Nimbus Roman No 9 comes in 12 styles: four weights,
three of them with italics, plus three condensed styles, as well as
SC (Small Caps) and DC (Display Caps / Descending Caps) styles of
the Regular. Two weights plus italics are also offered in an “L”
version (Laser, compatible to Adobe’s PostScript version, donated

Nimbus Roman No 9 L (based on Times) was
created in 1987 and released under the GPL and AFPL in 1996 and

URW++ uses the Nimbus Roman name also for its “Global Fonts” extensions, incl. VN (Vietnamese), ME (Middle East), Chinese, Korean, Thai.
