An anonymous design made in-house at Berthold in 1970, possibly
as revision of an older design (cf. Woellmer’s Englische Schreibschrift). In 1972, two
bolder weights were added. Letters do not quite join. All three
weights were expanded in 1981–82 with Englische
Schreibschrift 2, Version Romain, which is different in the
glyphs for ‘r z T’ [Berthold 1982].
There are various digital versions available. Berthold
Englische Schreibschrift spans the six original styles
(three weights in two versions, One and
Two). URW’s version also has three weights and is
equivalent to Berthold’s One. Here the Regular and
Bold are additionally available as joined-up styles. Linotype’s
version (three weights, like Berthold’s One) is named
English Script.
