Established in 1982 by Alfredo Inguaggiato, this ice cream parlor in Alt-Lübars is still run by the family. Their home-made ice cream has been recognized to be among the best in Berlin. The sign appears to be self-made, too, but the typography is not exactly award-winning material. It’s unclear to me what happened to the letterforms of American Text, originally designed in 1932 by Morris Fuller Benton for ATF. The ‘i’ and ‘ü’ have been scaled down to match the x-height — including the dots. Other glyphs were stretched horizontally, resulting in bolder stems. The blotchy result certainly makes for a lasting impression.
