A superb series of five novels by the English writer Edward St. Aubyn, published 1992–2011 and reissued this year with uniform cover designs (or ‘livery’, as the Brits say) by Stuart Wilson, a designer on the Picador staff.

These digital reproductions don’t do complete justice to the covers: the white type on each is beautifully debossed. As far as I can see, the author’s name is in Adobe Bodoni and the titles are in Bauer Bodoni. (O.K., a bit too much space between W and A on the top line …)

And the blurbs are all true – these are excellent novels.

  1. Lovely, indeed. “ED WARD” needs some kerning help, though. Especially on Mother’s Milk cover where the ‘A’ serif is obscured.
