“The Fat Man” was an instrumental by singer/drummer Hamilton Bohannon. Bohannon’s time as a drummer/bandleader (most famously at Motown) may have lent to the fact that a majority of his releases included long intros and breaks.

  1. RIP Hamilton Bohannon.

This sleeve is an indirect, multi-layered case of LTypI. The typeface for “The Fat Man” is one of Fotostar’s copies of Milton Glaser’s Baby Fat. The other, more direct one is named Buxom. This one, distinguished by more condensed proportions and a less pronounced shadow, is named Baby Arbuckle. This name seems to be chosen in direct reference to Baby Fat. Coincidentally, Glaser’s studio partner Seymour Chwast portrayed Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle for an issue of The Push Pin Graphic. Makes me wonder whether the cartoon is supposed to depict Arbuckle, too?
