BIG city guide, No. 0, “Saint-Tropez”
BIG is a new kind of city guide. This first edition brings you 180 pages about architecture, history and entrepreneurs in Saint-Tropez (France) and its surroundings. All shop owners were portrayed by Marseille-based photographer Philippe Conti.
The bilingual annual (English and French) is divided in 5 sections: Boutiques, Eat & Drink, Experiences, Home, Style. We felt that even though the guide was financed by participating entrepreneurs, it should be an interesting publication: particular attention has been paid to the editorial content; biographies of shops are written like testimonies, and longer articles present the historical and cultural background of surroundings.
Like every graphic designer I love fonts, and this ambitious project has been a funny playground. Curiously I used a lot of different typefaces, that’s not what we are teached to do… but I made choices regarding the fact that the document had to be welcoming to the reader.
Quiche is used for headlines, and for the magazine logo. This kind of font is so particular and engaging that I’m proud to have managed to use it. Freight Text and Freight Sans are paired for all texts that are to be read comfortably. Introductions use Praktika Rounded and ITC Tiffany is used for streamers and pull quotes.
