On the Digital Humanities. Essays and Provocations by Stephen Ramsay was published by University of Minnesota Press in 2023.
A founding figure in what was then known as humanities computing, Ramsay has a notably contentious relationship with what is now known as the Digital Humanities. He has asked whether DH is a field at all and whether coding qualifies as a form of scholarship. He has usefully read back the claims of DH against decades and even centuries of humanities practice and thinking, and he has questioned whether DH can claim to have a politics and whether it is truly a transformative force.
