The Spotify website has been redesigned. Proxima Nova has been replaced with LL Circular — cf. Spotify brand and website (2013). The site now uses four (upright) weights from the popular typeface family by Laurenz Brunner. The spacing has been tightened, even for text sizes, although to a lesser degree than for display.

  1. I think this use shows that Circular was not meant to be packed so tight. This is the first time the face hasn’t attracted me.

  2. Actually, the typeface is called Spotify Circular. It was a custom font designed for their own branding.

  3. Hi Kyle, did you see my reply to your previous comment?

That’s mostly branding, though: design-wise, the main difference between the retail version and Spotify’s custom version (as currently used on the website) seems to be that in the latter, numerals reach the height of capital letters. That’s a feature (now) available in the retail version of LL Circular via an OpenType feature, see Stylistic Set 8.

The design of Circular was started in 2005. It was first released in 2013. Spotify’s use started later, around 2015. In 2013, their website was using Gotham and Proxima Nova.

(I have removed the download link from your comment. I highly doubt that such redistribution of Lineto’s fonts is authorized, whether it’s the retail version or Spotify’s customized version.)
