“BG Group plc is a British multinational oil and gas company headquartered in Reading, United Kingdom. The company was created in 1997 when British Gas plc divested Centrica and became BG plc, which was reorganised in 1999 as BG Group plc.” — Wikipedia

Uffindell created the identity for BG Group when the company went global. The logo is a heavy ‘B’, drawn by Quay & Sack, with the distinctive ‘g’ of British favorite Gill Sans as the counter. The Gill’s lower bowl was rotated slightly to match the contours of the ‘B’. Various typefaces supported this ‘Bg’ mark over the years, starting with a custom font, but the identity soon settled on TheSans in the early 2000s. TheSans and its clear, contemporary numerals play a heavy role in various reports and infographics.

David Quay and myself were commissioned by Erika Uffindell to create the Bg logo. Our digital files are dated 1996 — doesn’t time fly. And of course we have the actual drawings.
