<p><cite>Fundamentals</cite> was developed for the Olympic Winter Games 2026 in Milan and Cortina. The installation highlights the four disciplines hosted in Milan – ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, and short track speed skating – bringing sport and art together.</p>

<p>Through a series of large-scale illustrations, the installation reveals key movements, rules, historical facts, figures and the stories of champions. Drawing on images selected from the Olympic Museum’s collections and reinterpreted in a graphic style inspired by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurism"><em>Futurismo</em></a>, the metro station becomes a place of discovery woven into everyday life.</p>

<p>The installation blends together moving images, infographics, and visually striking typography. Fully composed in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/97994/soehne" data-entity-code-id="97994" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Söhne</a> Fett</strong> and <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/113749/soehne-mono" data-entity-code-id="113749" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Söhne Mono</a> Kräftig</strong> by <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/foundry/133/klim-type-foundry" data-entity-code-id="133" data-entity-code-type="Foundry">Klim Type Foundry</a>.</p>

This edition, under the artistic direction of Caterina Barbieri, is marked by an openness towards contemporary electronic and electroacoustic music, and understanding music as a possibility for expanding one’s perception.</p>

<p>Thus, the catalog, designed by <a href="https://www.tomotomo.it/portfolio/">Tomo Tomo</a>, conceals a colourful, psychedelic star within its austere, sidereal cover, and the object itself changes and expands in the hands of those who leaf through it, expressing the dynamics of sensory expansion. Except for a sixteenth of ‘stellar’ images, the book is printed entirely in a silver spot color with a few elements in black and a large amount of white space. Cold, electronic, rarefied.</p>

<p>The typography, on the other hand, interprets the link with the refined tradition of classical music, with a font inspired by the work of <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/search?terms=jannon&amp;page=1">Jean Jannon</a>, <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/search?terms=granjon&amp;page=1">Robert Granjon</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippe_Grandjean#:~:text=Philippe%20Grandjean%20de%20Fouchy%20was%20a%20French,as%20Romain%20du%20Roi%20(French:%20King's%20Roman)%2C">Philippe Grandjean</a> and other – it’s <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/217981/store-norske-gangster" data-entity-code-id="217981" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Store Norske Gangster</a></strong>, designed by <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/type_designers/4846/arve-baatevik" data-entity-code-id="4846" data-entity-code-type="TypeDesigner">Arve Båtevik</a>. It was founded by Alessandro Scotti and Daniel Marzona in Milano, in November 2024.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.tomotomo.it/portfolio/">Tomo Tomo</a> designed the identity of the space and all the printed and digital materials, working with the limited budget as a design asset. They used only black and white and&nbsp;one typeface family, <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/198515/abc-walter-alte" data-entity-code-id="198515" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">ABC Walter Alte</a></strong>.</p>

<p>For each exhibition or performance, a printed publication is produced. It serves&nbsp;as a record of the event and a collector's item that conveys the vision of the featured artist through its form and layout.</p>

A book that goes from black to white, crossed by silver. Cross-cut by alchemical fascinations and the universe of combinatorial play. A voyage of discovery and deconstruction that interprets the pivotal theme of this fifty-second International Theatre Festival, a labyrinthine and fragmentary journey but also one of discovery and ascent, from black to white.</p>

<p>Composed entirely in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/39553/union-radim-pesko" data-entity-code-id="39553" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Union</a></strong>, with widespread use of all caps to allow the typographic composition to draw a page grid as regular as possible, so as to integrate with the basic grid pattern made up of all the squares that from time to time appear or disappear on the page. Printed in three colors on normal, black, and transparent paper.</p>

Ten years after his passing, Milan celebrates the work of the great photographer with a double exhibition at <a href="https://triennale.org/eventi/gabriele-basilico-milano">Triennale di Milano</a> and <a href="https://www.palazzorealemilano.it/mostre/le-mie-citta">Palazzo Reale</a>.</p>

<p>The identity is based on minium red, the typical color used in the construction site to prevent steel corrosion and in all worksites as signal color. An industrial paint, closely connected with the Basilico’s passion for factories and industrial areas. <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/12/neue-haas-grotesk" data-entity-code-id="12" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Neue Haas Grotesk</a></strong> typeface is a reference to the urban landscape, normally plenty of signage composed in <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/44/helvetica" data-entity-code-id="44" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Helvetica</a>.</p>

<p>The catalogue is a double book, spine connected, and displays in two volumes the two exhibitions, Milan and the cities of the world.</p>

<p>Published in two editions (Italian and English), with the same plastic dust jacket and a red/white cover. The dust jacket with the plastic material refers to the world of film and also the repetition of the word <em>dieci</em> (“ten”) aims to give a cinematic effect. The theater has five locations in five different cities: Bologna, Modena, Cesena, Vignola, Castelfranco Emilia. Each theater and each city have a specific identity that originates with the interpretation of the architectonic shape of each building. This synthetic and pure architectonic forms matched with a different color palette for each theater make the identity of the whole season. The typeface, <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/42284/ostia-antica" data-entity-code-id="42284" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Ostia Antica</a></strong> by <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/foundry/1933/bureau-brut" data-entity-code-id="1933" data-entity-code-type="Foundry">Bureau Brut</a>, makes a strong connection between all the theaters and all the different printed materials. <p>Design studio <a href="http://www.tomotomo.it/">Tomo Tomo</a>, helped by photo-editor Raffaele Vertaldi, oversaw the entire design of the volume, selecting and organizing the photographic material in a book that gives wide space to photographic reportage but also to textual stories and their pleasant reading. Printed in roto offset due to its huge circulation of 100,000 copies.<br />

When La Biennale di Venezia Meets History, an exhibition by the Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts (ASAC), held in the Central Pavilion of the Giardini della Biennale from the 29th of August 29 to the 8th of December 8 2020.</p>

<p>This is the first exhibition to be curated by all the Artistic Directors of La Biennale’s six Departments. Cecilia Alemani (Art), Alberto Barbera (Cinema), Marie Chouinard (Dance), Ivan Fedele (Music), Antonio Latella (Theatre) and Hashim Sarkis (Architecture).</p>

<p>The book is proposed not only as a catalog of the exhibition, but also as an independent volume that makes explicit the great variety and complexity of relationships existing between the materials on display and the different historical/social events. A complexity told with a dynamic and composite layout, enclosed in a very light and unpretentious book object, which “speaks” more of the archive than of celebration.</p>

Tomo Tomo has completely redesigned it starting from a new format, more streamlined and compact than the historical broadsheet. The design has tried, with every detail, to create a newspaper with an extremely relaxing and clear reading experience. A timeless classic, far from fashion, sober and authoritative, with a touch of Milanese understatement.</p>

<p>We used a custom typeface series, <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/44799/sole-serif" data-entity-code-id="44799" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Sole Serif</a></strong> and <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/92989/sole-sans" data-entity-code-id="92989" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Sole Sans</a></strong>, a really huge family, which outlines a strong identity, taking inspiration from the great Venetian publishing tradition of the 1500s. <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/uses/24843/il-sole-24-ore-2018-redesign">The last redesign of the newspaper from 2018</a> had already introduced this custom typeface family. Tomo Tomo, starting from this previous redesign, wanted to clean out all the useless elements, giving a feeling of more white space by making stronger use of the lighter weights of the Sole Serif family. A “brick book”, which conveys this overabundance and visual violence. A brick where is predominant the red color in contrast and vibration with the electric blue recreating the visual energy of the photographs.</p>

<p>Massimo Siragusa’s photographs are accompanied by an unpublished screenplay by Ugo Gregoretti about building speculation. The book is designed by <a href="http://www.tomotomo.it/">Tomo Tomo</a> with all text set in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/3483/neue-helvetica" data-entity-code-id="3483" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Neue Helvetica</a></strong>, the most common and unaware used typeface in the city’s chaotic signs.</p>

And from there we started to update the magazine. A new simplicity that gives space to the contents and value of the magazine’s texts. This clarity and simplicity of typography is then balanced by a strong chromatic component of the covers, also borrowed from the history of the magazine. The interiors, composed in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/42501/financier-text" data-entity-code-id="42501" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Financier Text</a></strong> (<a href="http://klim.co.nz/retail-fonts/financier-text/">Klim Type</a>), are focused on legibility for a reading experience that is as pleasant as possible. The new masthead/logo and headlines are instead composed in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/39553/union-radim-pesko" data-entity-code-id="39553" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Union</a></strong> by <a href="http://radimpesko.com/fonts/union">Radim Peško</a>. The cover artworks are by <a href="http://cristianacouceiro.com/">Cristiana Couceiro</a>. It’s a magazine about food and wine itineraries along Italy and throughout Europe.</p>

<p><span><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/designers/5150/tomo-tomo">Tomo Tomo</a></span> redesigned all the newspapers, with the aim to produce a simple and functional layout. For this specific supplement, though, we also played a lot with the whitespace of the layout in contrast to the boldness of the big headlines composed in <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/80197/schnyder" data-entity-code-id="80197" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Schnyder</a></strong> and the big black lines. <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/57/graphik" data-entity-code-id="57" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Graphik</a></strong> is used as the text typeface. Another important element of the identity is the funny and colored illustration balancing the elegance of the spreads.</p>

<p>We created the whole identity, balancing the familiar feeling of the newspaper with a distinct flavor. We gave to the supplement the richness and the typical approach of a monthly magazine, using many different combinations of layout and headlines in a typeface with a strong personality.       <title><![CDATA[Respect. Stop Violence against women.]]></title>

Stop Violence against women </em>is a project in favor of gender equality created for the Italian statistical institute Censis with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Department for Equal Opportunities. The project result is a book/exhibition, made up of three different parts: <em>Rspct</em> (“Respect”), is the main report of the research carried out by Censis which also acts as an introduction to all the work; followed by <em>Bd'I </em>(“Bellezze d’Italia”, Beauties of Italy) and <em>Adm</em> (“Atlante della Misogenia”, Atlas of misogyny), two visual investigations on the theme of misogyny made by photographer Alessandro Scotti.</p>

<p>In <em>Bellezze d’Italia</em>, the theme of gender gap is investigated through a gallery of pictorial images inspired by the biblical episode of Susanna and the Elders. An episode narrated by Daniele, the prophet, where two elderly judges threaten to denounce the young Susanna of adultery if he is not granted them. She refuses to be blackmailed and she is arrested and put to death for promiscuity when the young Daniel interrupts the proceedings and save her.<br />
Selecting over 100 Italian artists from 1300 to 1900 and cutting out and re-associating their paintings, a huge scene is created that represent the evolution of man-woman relationships and the perception of femininity over the centuries. The bronze and black backgrounds of the pages reinforce the contrast between the museum quality of the works and the crudeness of the story of violence.</p>

<p><em>Atlante della Misogenia</em> is a corpus of orthophotos of the twenty Italian main cities divided into tables as in a road atlas. In each city, streets, avenues and plazas named after female figures have been highlighted in red. With great immediacy, we evidence how cities are a cultural representation of a society marked by the domination of the male: female toponyms are in fact very few, almost never in a central position and almost always aimed at figures of saints or royalty.</p>

<p>These two visual investigations have been bound with a metal spiral with the main aim of making this book a simple and inexpensive tool for creating exhibitions on the theme of gender equality in the school. Taking two copies of the book and cutting them with a cutter near the ring binding, you will get loose sheets which, following the instructions at the end of the book, can be placed side by side to compose boards to hang on the wall. In the case of the <em>Atlante della Misogenia</em> you will get twenty large maps of Italian cities, while in the case of <em>Bellezze d’Italia</em> you can compose a long continuous strip or cut the individual characters and arrange them in infinite combinations and relationships.</p>

<p>We wanted to use a “plain” typeface, that can work well with art and also with the great amount of maps and small detail in the book. <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/39553/union-radim-pesko"><strong>Union</strong></a> by Radim Peško sits somewhere between <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/44/helvetica" data-entity-code-id="44" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Helvetica</a> and <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/4869/arial" data-entity-code-id="4869" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Arial</a>. This issue, between the serious and the funny, tells the great failures (“flop”) of the media world, so even our graphics and the object itself try to be in part a “flop”, an epic fail. Thanks to a thin and very flexible paper and a “wrong” (shorter) cover, the magazine is “flopposo”, saggy in hands, imitating the onomatopoeic sound of the word “flop”. Obviously the main color is purple, which is said to bring bad luck at the openings in the showbiz world. Inside, various photographers and illustrators have interpreted the theme with an ironic and artistic touch. The typography features the standard couple of all the issues (<a href="http://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/7380/apercu"><strong>Aperçu</strong></a> and <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/92/lyon"><strong>Lyon</strong></a>). <p><a href="http://www.tomotomo.it/">Tomo Tomo</a> made the identity and the layout of <cite>The Passenger</cite>. They used a typeface series with a strong personality, <strong>Noe</strong> (in <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/31872/noe-display"><strong>Display</strong></a> and <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/39124/noe-text"><strong>Text</strong></a> cuts), and worked a lot with the typography due to the literary approach of the magazine. The subsidiary typeface is <a href="http://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/32345/f-grotesk"><strong>F Grotesk</strong></a>, more neutral and useful for infographics and small text. <p><a href="http://www.tomotomo.it/">Tomo Tomo</a> designed three concertina catalogues: three narrative and explorative experiments on three essential pictures that try to evocate the vastness of the project. Violent and bare covers define three dangerous objects. In contrast, the interior pages take the reader on a slow and deep visual path with different image elaborations, to lose yourself in Corpi di Reato’s places.</p>

A multimedia project commissioned by Donna Moderna magazine, it spans an <a href="http://www.donnamoderna.com/dossier-terremoto/">online long-form</a>, a short movie, and a huge unbound photobook. The big size of the book (30×40cm) stands for the vastness of the devastation caused by the earthquake. The unbound finishing symbolizes the uncertainty of the future.
