The Philadelphia-based Fitler Club’s 135,000 square-foot campus also functions as one of the city’s most forward-looking contemporary arts gallery spaces. To celebrate the Fitler Foundation’s two initial two-year artistic residency cohorts, Artists in Residence at Fitler Club 2019-2023 lets both the space and the work do the talking. Functioning as both commemoration and advertising, this piece communicates simultaneous messages of exclusivity and outreach. Big type is set in Miniature Display.

Ronnie Sassoon’s unparalleled art collection takes pride of place in Selection, showcased in her trio of celebrated living spaces: a home in Litchfield by Marcel Breur, another in Los Angeles by Richard Neutra and her Soho Loft in NYC laid out by its former long-term tenant Jack Ceglic. Loose snapshots of Sassoon’s homes contrast architecture with art, showcasing her noted collections of works and design objects from the Italian Arte Povera and Groupe Zero schools.

Shapes From Out of Nowhere pays tribute to the extensive cluster of experimental ceramics donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art by Robert A. Ellison Jr., celebrated with a spirited exhibition in 2021. Featuring works of over 50 boundary-pushing ceramicists including George Ohr, Axel Salto, Katherine Choy and Peter Voulkos, this catalog’s playful arrangements are directly inspired by the artworks themselves.

At Galeria Passado Composto, Noka was used for the headlines of an exhibition on artist/designer Jean Gillon (Romania 1919 – São Paulo 2007). His mid-century artworks and furniture were integrated into small compartmented zones, and an extensive timeline was created to contextualize his productivity across various mediums.

Through a long-lasting artistic collaboration after our own hearts, artists Brad Davis and Janis Provisor’s Fort Street Studio has brought the ancient practice of Chinese carpet weaving to an international audience. A Tale of Warp and Weft chronicles their joint discoveries and explorations throughout a shared career, craftily designed in parallel to the act of weaving itself. Hardcover editions also include a cloth fabric spine featuring a sample of their work.

Working closely with a committee of classmates from the 2022 undergrad cohort, we constructed their annual catalog opting for a visually enticing mix as opposed to an indexical grouping of works. Both the book and the ever-changing accompanying website – never appearing the same way twice – expressively heighten and reinforce the true collectivity and collaborative spirit of the class of ’22. And you wanted a twist? The typeface – introducing Lampen! – was created in-house at Index uniquely for this project.
