Zett, the biannual magazine of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), explores how artists, designers, and thinkers perceive and shape the world around them. It brings together a wide range of stories from the ZHdK cosmos – all beautifully designed and thoughtfully curated.

The magazine’s visual design is by Samuel Marty, who has given Zett its distinctive and contemporary appearance. In the latest issue, he uses Daisy by LudwigType for the title and headlines, and Brenner Sans with Brenner Slab by Typotheque for the text.

This 2015 annual report of the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) is thought around the theme of reflection, of transparency. Translucent paper is used for the cover to introduce the theme right from the first contact. It continues throughout the report, by using a typographic overprinting on the headlines, which once they reach the end of the line, go back the other way depending on their length.

The use of BVH Newut, with its particularity of having the uppercase letters at the same height as the lowercase letters, amplifies this visual play in the titles and makes it even more graphic.

Samuel Marty designed a beautiful annual report for the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), one of the major universities of the arts in Europe. The study and research programme covers the areas of design, film, fine arts, music, dance, theatre, transdisciplinary studies, and the teaching of arts and design.

The annual report is printed in UV offset on black paper. By means of photography, it shows that many disciplines of art (e.g. dance, theater, film, music, design, art) are staging themselves more and more (mostly in dark surroundings). LudwigType’s Godfrey is used throughout.

The Schriftenfächer is a type fan designed by Richard Frick and Samuel Marty for students and those interested in typography who want to learn more about (Latin) type and its classifications.

Around 220 typefaces are shown in a new classification based on historical as well as formal criteria. It offers the opportunity to compare typefaces and place them in their historical context. NN Medien (Nouvelle Noire) is used for the editorial texts.

The annual report of the largest art institution in Switzerland, the Zurich University of the Arts used Fedra Serif A Book for the main text of the publication, paired with Helvetica for headlines. For visual impact, display typeface Klimax is used big, as illustration, across the report. Designed internally at the communication department of the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK).
