Urbanbooks, a content strategy company that proposes contemporary sensibility through paper, space, people, and products, has produced and published Samlip Hoppang’s brand book The Hoppang Book: The Archive.

The book tells the stories of Samlip Hoppang, which was first launched in 1971 and has given warmth to Koreans in every winter for 50 years. Hoppang (ho bread; 호빵) is a warm snack that is sold throughout South Korea. It is a convenience food version of jjinppang (steamed bread) and is typically filled with smooth, sweetened red bean paste.

Samlip’s custom brand typeface Sandoll Samliphopangche, designed by Sandoll, is used throughout.

Hotel Express 284 is an exhibition designed to examine the process of settling down with the introduction and spread of hotel culture and the multilayered aspects of hotels today.

In this exhibition, Urbanbooks transformed the exhibition venue into the City Travel Information Center. This information center was inspired by the Gyeongseong Tourist Information Center. A pamphlet was made with the concept of traveling to the past, present, and future, in which Sandoll ChilsungBoatyard was used. Younghwan Min, who was the first man who traveled around the world in Korean history, offered a travel course that provided visitors with a unique experience by transcending time and space.

Sandoll Chilsung Boatyard is a typeface based on the original handwriting on a map of an old boatyard which is now re-born as a new cultural complex, located in Sokcho, Gangwon-do. Due to its direction of the diagonal stroke, the overall appearance of the typeface looks like a diamond. The brush tip movements and traces from the original drawing are reinterpreted and refined with the modern sense of beauty. Sandoll ChilsungBoatyard stands out when it is used in headlines. Also you can experience and deliver the original style and the characteristics when the font exceeds 24pt.

Urbanlike is a lifestyle magazine focused on urban life and issues in Seoul, published by Urbanbooks since 2013. For every issue, the editorial team chooses a topic that revolves around us in the city life, for example hotels, meals, printed matter, stationery.

Issue 39 is about workplaces where creators like artists, designers, or photographers make something meaningful. In this issue, we used a number of different fonts to reflect the diversity of workplaces. Likewise, the texts and images have a wide spectrum. We chose each font to adequately express the character of the topic.

The issue’s title uses PP Monument. The Urbanlike logo is based on Futura.

The table of contents combines Gopher with Sandoll GothicNeo and Neue Haas Grotesk.
