Thoughts of Movin’ On is the fifth album by the rock band that formed in 1968 in Toronto. It was released less than six months after One Fine Morning, originally on GRT Records in Canada. The images show the US gatefold release on Evolution (#3010).

The cover design was again provided by Brad Johannsen. Like with the precursor, the typography features two novelty faces that had been added to the library of Photo-Lettering, Inc. shortly before. The band name again is shown in two-colored caps with shadow effect. This time, the chosen typeface is Benguiat Downsie, a wide sans with horizontal contrast, in the vein of Letraset’s Zipper or VGC’s Sintex (both 1970).

The album title is set in Michas, the only typeface design credited to William G. Michas, Jr. Made from basic geometric shapes with thin slots as counters, it recalls Baby Teeth (1967) or Disco (before 1971). An open variant was first shown in PLINC’s Art Deco catalog from 1970.

Source: www.flickr.com Photo: epiclectic. License: All Rights Reserved.

Detail of the type.

Source: www.flickr.com Photo: epiclectic. License: All Rights Reserved.

Gatefold.

Source: www.flickr.com Photo: epiclectic. License: All Rights Reserved.

Cover (back and front).

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use

Originally released by GRT Records, the images show the US version by Evolution Records.

The psychedelic artwork is by Brad Johannsen. The band name is shown in bichromatic Mierop Ginger Snap (Photo-Lettering, 1969). The album title uses an unidentified geometric sans with Art Deco vibes. Chances are it’s Benguiat Herculoid. Free Zone is a match, but this font was released only in 2001. Designer Joffre LeFevre didn’t mention the source of his revival.

Source: theporporbooksblog.blogspot.com Scan by tarbandu. License: All Rights Reserved.

The back cover is set in News Gothic or similar.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use
