Together we own all that is on earth. In that sense we are all royalty. And kings and queens of this earth. And we all deserve dignity.

This poster design featuring Droog was made as an entry to the 14th edition of Posters for Tomorrow, titled “What is Dignity?”

A typographic experiment with Dharma Gothic

These designs were made as submissions to the Posters for the Planet project of 2024. I like the clearness of the Flexible font by Art Grootfontein.

Jarr Geerligs designed Michel De Goede’s website, a business mentor and personal coach from the Netherlands.

He used Flexible for the headlines and capitalised on the full potential of the variable typeface in playful layouts, adding some animations. The body copy is rendered in Montserrat.

Breaking up with Tiffany. And loving her in the process.

Here I exaggerated different parts of ITC Tiffany to get the result I was looking for. I packed her tightly as if she likes bondage. I am very happy how the dot of the i fits into her A. How the tilted “of” gets off in the “Breaking”. How the k is still readable.

Taking Tango for a tango.

Sometimes I think Tango is not that nice of a font. Bulgy. Clonky. But it has playfulness in it. On Queen’s Day (now King’s Day), there are always great parties in Amsterdam. And to celebrate it a bit more than just for our Queen I created the title: “A Queen In Every Girl”. I like the way things grab into each other. Like a face and body does. When you like someone’s nose it fits with the jaw and eyes. Everybody is a complete fitting whole. A monarch of their own being. To add some more festivity to the design I added the colorfull bubble gum.

Journies & Explorations Beyond The Familiar & The Usual with ITC Serif Gothic and the ITC Quorum (Thanks for the reminder Jay Mellor).

I really like Herb Lubalin fonts. I think it is because he also designed with his own fonts. He left room to fool around with them because of their graphical exactness.

Here I fooled around myself. How far could I stretch the use of the font and make it still recognisable. I wanted to add a bit of Ziggy Stardust dust. Some altered reality. Because music can do that.

In this period I was trying to modify typefaces I liked for the SubTone clubnight in Amsterdam, inspired by work of Herb Lubalin.

Amelia is this standard retro space font. A class of its own in recognizability. I added swashes, depth and repetition. A lot of repetition. Like a beat in the music. Like a melody you can play on & on & on.

Manipulation of ITC Busorama for a SubTone clubnight in Amsterdam.

This Tom Carnase font was used several times by Herb Lubalin, who was an inspiration for this SubTone series of posters.

I tried to make a little music in the design. Like sampling can do. Playing with rhythm. Distort. Smooth out. Cut off. Flow. Really like how the 180 degrees turned ampersand befits the two S’s.
