The publication RAUSCH als anderer Zustand serves as a visual and textual retrospective of the Höhenrausch exhibitions at the OÖ Kulturquartier in Linz, spanning from 2016 to 2021. This two-part book captures the essence of the exhibitions through a rich interplay of imagery and text.

The first section, Bildrausch (literally: “a rush of images”), presents a purely visual experience: a photographic journey through the exhibitions, with images sorted by color – from deep Turnton’s blue to flamingo pink and ethereal cloud greys. The second section, Textrausch, features curatorial insights, artistic reflections, and analytical essays, offering a comprehensive narrative of the exhibitions’ evolution.

Typography serves as the conceptual anchor of the publication, balancing visual and narrative principles. Throughout the book, Rauschen A and B – grotesque sans-serif typefaces from the Out of the Dark foundry by Philipp Herrmann – offer a contemporary take on classical forms. Their range from Regular to Black, paired with gradient coloring, adds a vibrant, atmospheric quality that mirrors the layered themes of the exhibitions. Their rhythm and tonal richness evoke the idea of “Rausch” – a heightened, altered state – and visually reflect the immersive character of the project.

Syncro Mono, a monospaced serif by Fabio Furlani and Philipp Herrmann, adds contrast with pronounced serifs and structured rhythm. Inspired by 19th-century Ronaldson Clarendon, it reinforces the analytical clarity of the text-focused section.

Together, these typefaces shape both Bildrausch and Textrausch, create a typographic landscape that balances expressiveness with precision – echoing the multi-sensory, conceptually layered nature of Höhenrausch.

Exhibition catalogue published on the occasion of the show Looping Tongues at Galerie Kandl.

With the increasing challenge of physical contact in a digitalised world we find ourselves confronted with a growing psychological alienation from our environment. The exhibition Looping Tongues sparks a dialogue between the two Viennese artists Bianca Phos and Titania Seidl who converge on the theme of seemingly unforeseen and invisible entanglements, opening up questions about a common and solidary future between individuals.
