Ready, set… go! SPRINT – The Portfolio Issue showcases 23 different portfolio approaches of young HfK Bremen athletes coming from the disciplines of integrated design, digital media and fine arts. Over a 10 week boot camp these young students trained the art of portfolio making. Now they are taking on the fight of the job marked striving for fame, glory and a half decent salary.

SPRINT headlines are set in Savate by We.ch – a free font which is freely inspired by a hand-lettering found in the streets of Ivry-sur-Seine in the suburbs of Paris. Its name refers to the savate, a typically french fighting sport – a perfect match for the “no pain! no gain!” spirit of SPRINT. Less rebellious but rather more classic is the choice of Garamond as text font and Suisse Int’l for marginalia.

Freier Design Report showcases visionary projects of students of the University of the Arts Bremen. Printed on 55 g/m² newsprint paper the magazine introduces four projects on 48 pages, ranging from furniture design to up-cycling concepts. The magazine was published in 2014 in a print run of 50 copies.

Music plays such a vital role in our lives from the early days of childhood, through our teenage years and even beyond our days it defines us as human beings. Music can be inspiring, entertaining, exiting and apparently it can be weaponized. Between 2002 and 2006 the US forces in Afghanistan, Cuba and Iraq opened so called discos for interrogation of prisoners of the so-called global war on terror. During the interrogations the prisoners would be subjected to loud music and strobe lights, from which the discos gained their name. This publication forms the foundation of the sound installation THE DISCO shown at the exhibitions Regarding: Bunker and Double Bandes – Brest et Brême.

Due to the lack of copyrights a radical edit was imposed. The censorial produce was purposely reversed with the innocuous deleted and the violent unpleasant left untouched. Printed on 90g/m² 1.5 bulk Munken Cream Book, the book was published in 2017 via the publishing platform Fresh Prints at the University of the Arts Bremen.

Repair it! is a non-profit pop-up bicycle workshop in Bremen, Germany. The website’s design is simple, clear and of a restrained sophistication. It mainly uses GT Haptik in its regular style.

The 2014 edition of Kalender der Straße features 12 large-sized contemporary photographies from the picture library of the Zeitschrift der Straße, selected by Peter Bialobrzeski (World Press Photo Award winner). The calendar also features a selection of the best stories and moments from the past 18 issues of the street newspaper from Bremen.

Krana is a custom font designed by Berlin based studio Schick Tokka. Schick Toikka was established in 2010 by Florian Schick and Lauri Toikka.

Bam — welcome to the new year. Bam — get up your lazy bones and go to the Bremen theater. Back in December 2013 me and Carolin Pertsch designed a program flyer for Theater Bremen. The design reflects the January program. Because of the play The pin and the air balloon, a performance by singer-songwriter Dagobert, we gave it this Roy Lichtenstein-like style. 

Here we go! Let the studies at HfK Bremen begin. Every year the First Aid Team welcomes the students of the first semester at the University of Arts Bremen with a compendium called the First Aid. To facilitate the start in Bremen, we provide some information for the freshmen on 56 pages. The guide is both in English and German. To make it easier to distinguish between the languages, we decided to make a splitted turn-around-book: one side is entirely in English while the other side is in German. Due to the notepad-like style you never have to bother with both languages, one is always upside down. Also, the new students are very welcome to check out our favourite places in town that we added to the First Aid.
