Bålder Quartet is a Finnish string quartet playing classical music together since their launch in 2018. In January 2026 they revealed a new visual identity, designed by David Matos / Shutupandance using Poppins throughout, plus Bloyd for the logo.

The stacked lines symbolise the core composition of a string quartet. It alludes to the two violins, the viola and the cello (and, by extension, the four musicians). Each line can also be seen as representing the four strings, common to all instruments in the quartet.

The logotype can take on different shapes by shifting characters, together or individually, along their vertical axis (i.e. baseline), evoking the sensation of sound, music, and rhythm. It can be animated in several ways — for example, reacting to sound as a backdrop projection in live settings.

Periferias, held in Portugal and Spain, is an annual event organised by the Associação Cultural Periferias in Portugal and Gato Pardo in Spain. It takes place in Marvão (Portugal) and Valencia de Alcántara (Spain) since 2013.

The festival aims to decentralize cultural activities, making cinema and other cultural experiences accessible to rural populations typically underserved by such events. Periferias is known for its unique settings, with screenings and activities taking place in (often remote) natural and historic locations.

The theme for its 12th edition is “Happiness”. The visual identity conveys the idea through abstract(ish) depictions of the peaceful lowlands of Alentejo, home of the festival. It uses only Fungis Grotesque.

Rebrand for Project Space Festival Juarez 2023 (PSFJ23), themed “sitting on the border”. In the words of director Gabriela Durán-Barraza:

We will focus on Ciudad Juárez and its central issue: human exploitation. The exploitation of underpaid people in the assembly lines; the exploitation of missing people; the exploitation of restriction of movement. Because people in the Global South are considered less valuable, missing people is not an emergency.

Risograph printed poster for Sea Sleepers, a musical project by Miranda Vukasović & Luís Bittencourt that explores the boundaries between water (element), architecture (practice and matter) and place (space and concept). Prints by Tina Siuda at Not So Fast Press.

Artwork for Instrumentalities and Audible Volitions, the latest release from Luís Bittencourt. In his words: “Percussion is an art in which sonic plurality is celebrated, and the notion of a musical instrument is constantly challenged and reconfigured.”

Os Arranjadores is a multi-disciplinary collective based in Porto that designs and build musical instruments capable of producing harmony, melody, and rhythm from waste and recycled materials. This is the visual identity for their latest project, when they performed live at the OPO’Lab auditorium in early November 2022.

Christmas Special banners for Node Center for the Curatorial Studies in Berlin (English and Spanish branches). The typography uses two typefaces available from Velvetyne Type: Avara, designed by Raphaël Bastide, and Matthieu Cannavo’s Mixo, making good use of its myriad alternate letter shapes. .
