In April 2021 the Master Studio Culture and Identity at the University of the Arts (HfK) Bremen went on a trip to a place in Germany called Paradies. Based on the actual place we went for an aesthetic examination of an everlasting place of longing: “paradise”.

The students explored their own experiences and ideals regarding paradise and expressed them through a variety of media like texts, photographs, illustrations, graphics and sound. The different perspectives change between the here and the beyond, between tangible and abstract and between the visible and the invisible.

“How much does a beginning weigh?” With this question and 24 more the new members of the Master Studio Culture and Identity at the HfK Bremen react to their start in winter semester 2020/21. Together they created a magazine which contains 57 different answers. They introduce themselves with a variety of individual expressions.

Beograd—White City is based on a ten days experience in Belgrade, Serbia in April 2016. In this publication we engage with the themes of individual and national identity, censorship, privatisation and governance in the context of a globalising city and its people. Our encounters speak of a country that is reorganising itself to negotiate its global image while straddling between its memories of the past and its dreams for a future at par with the world economy.​
