Originally designed for high-end lifestyle contexts – ranging from beauty and fashion to music, food & beverage, interior, and design – the Aquavit typeface was deliberately tested by Manuel Kreuzer in a completely different setting. Its sharp contrasts, crisp edges, and subtle Art Nouveau influences bring a sense of elegance and individuality to the poster, while also reflecting the intensity and fragmentation of August Stramm’s language: sex, seduction, conflict, despair, death. A typeface made for beauty – yet capable of revealing the darker depths.

2024 marks the 24th edition of LAKFF, the Landshuter Kurzfilmfestival (Landshut Short Film Festival) in Germany. It showcases more than 200 short films.

For the eighth consecutive year, graphic designer Manuel Kreuzer is in charge of the festival identity, which is renewed each time. This year, he choose to work with the bold and playful Dina Chaumont to embody the identity. It’s supported by GT Flexa.

New branding for Athanor Akademie, a performing arts academy in Passau, Germany, training actors and directors for film and theater. The redesign makes great use of Snare’s variable type features in the new lockup logo and motion elements across the brand.

According to Anne Kaiser’s article for PAGE, designer Manuel Kreuzer based the entire identity on Snare by In-House International. Individual letters break out from the wordmark again and again – just as the academy’s students should be able to discover and live out their own creative personality during their studies. “The typeface is playful, fun, and with its lanky verticals and somewhat nervous energy, it also reflects the training” Kreuzer says. The complementary sans is Graphik by Commercial Type.

For each year, the posters follow a distinct design concept, so that Athanor Academy can always reinvent itself while maintaining continuity. In 2023, Kreuzer uses the Undefined Object Generator programmed by Eva-Maria Offermann and Paul Zink to generate new posters from previously defined colors, quotes, and images.

Visual identity for the Wagner joinery from Oberötzdorf near Passau in Lower Bavaria. Christoph Wanger and his team are carpenters with body and soul. Their work is reduced. Straight. Attention to detail. Their work is inspired by the formal language and functionality of modern architecture. This should also be reflected in branding, photos and on their website.

This project completely designed with the amazing typeface NN Nouvelle Grotesk, designed by Anton Studer and available form Nouvelle Noire, Switzerland.

UI is a monthly local magazine born in September 2004 in Hauzenberg, Bavarian Forest, Germany. The magazine features news and stories from the past, politics and society, culture and events.

Since issue 166, the new layout designed by Manuel Kreuzer is in use. Only two typefaces are used throughout the magazine: Sole Serif for headlines and body text and FF Real for masthead, bylines, standfirsts and captions.

Sole Serif is used for the magazine website, too.

Typotopografie is a magazine series by August Dreesbach Verlag that presents (typo)graphic excursions in various cities: special places, personalities, institutions or exhibitions related to typography, design and the art of printing in urban spaces.

Just in time for the Frankfurt Book Fair 2019, the anniversary edition focuses on the city of Hamburg. Editorial designer and typographer Manuel Kreuzer counts on the appeal of two Typemates releases: the raw Halvar in combination with the expressive Bridge Head and Text.

In a reference to the Hamburg coat of arms, the tenth edition is designed with red as the main colour. Kreuzer gives each section of the 80-pages magazine a new visual impression, introducing the reader to the unique characteristics of the interview partners.

Our type foundry is among the interviewees. Partners Lisa and Nils are closely connected to Hamburg and designed Halvar, adding some local flavour to the typeface selection – even when the typographic star of the publication is Bridge, a design by Mona Franz (based in Munich, approximately 800 km south of Hamburg) that started out as her graduation project for Type and Media in The Hague, Netherlands in 2018.

Typotopografie is a magazine that takes a closer look at the typography and printing art in urban centres. Each edition focuses on another city and displays its unique typographic flair. The first three issues about Munich, Düsseldorf, and Berlin were published simultaneously in 2012. Typotopografie is published by August Dreesbach Verlag. The design is credited to Anne Dreesbach, F.J. Keselitz, Munich, and Manuel Kreuzer, Büro für visuelle Gestaltung, Hauzenberg. Since issue 4, the design lays in the hands of Dreekreuz (Dreesbach & Kreuzer).

Meret Pro Bold is used for the magazine logo. For the interior typography, various weights from Meret Pro are paired with Soleil. The images show the issues 4 and 5 about Leipzig and Vienna, published in 2013.

Based in the historic university town of Passau, Germany, Faber magazine is a liberal voice focusing on regional as well as cultural and social topics with a young and provocative tone.

In addition to life-style content such as music, gastronomy and nightlife, Faber also stands for opinion and critical examination of socially relevant, contemporary topics. According to its literal translation, the name Faber represents a high affinity for craftsmanship and art. These motives were decisive for us, which is precisely due to the physical nature of the magazine printed on newsprint as well as published by its graphic and content design.
Linked to this is the goal of being a young, cool, provocative, but above all, liberal voice in a livable and historic university town.

Created for the 18th anniversary of Landshuter Kurzfilm-Festival (LAKFF, Landshut Short Film Festival), Manuel Kreuzer Büro für visuelle Gestaltung has produced an up-to-date piece that is concise and unmistakable. Logotype, visual brackets and poster motifs were all created from the smallest element of film — the pixel.

The pixel is the basis of the project and has been developed to be a recognizable character in the typeface. Euclid Flex by Swiss Typefaces was the perfect match for the project’s concept. Its various stylistic sets allow it to be used for the different film categories appearing optically in thematic variations.

The text in German language for the catalogue was set in space-saving Fabrikat by Christoph Koeberlin, all English texts in Minion by Robert Slimbach.
