French duo La Direction designed the 242nd issue of the French visual culture magazine étapes:. Along with Maax and Abril Text, part of the magazine’s standard typographic identity, the titles of the central topic “Drawing & Storytelling” are set in the very condensed Grandmaster.

The identity of Rencontres Cinématographiques de Dijon 2017 was conceived by La Direction at a workshop with Audrey Petitjean, Di Suo, Emilie Ferreira, students of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art de Dijon (ENSA Dijon).

For an identity that takes it to the streets to attract visitors' attention, one might expect some bold type in the design. La Direction took another route and picked two typefaces that cut and punch their way through its black background, not unlike a projector piercing the darkness of a cinema hall.

The festival logo consists of the abbreviation RCD, set in Commercial Type’s Giorgio Sans, a low contrast and compact typeface with alternates for C, D, G, O, Q, X. On the poster, Giorgio Sans is supported by Damien Gautier's Beretta Sans (205TF). In the program booklet, Beretta is used throughout – from headlines and pull quotes to page navigation and body copy (where the dots almost merge into lines), a million little dots guide readers along three days of cinema.

“A sweet, sweet identity project for you today, in the shape of Lyon-based studio La Direction’s work for venue Le Sucre. The studio is helmed by Aurélien Arnaud and Elsa Audouin, who set it up two years ago and have since worked across print, web, and interior graphic design for clients ranging from adidas to Born Bad Records to Grolsch. The one that most neatly presents the breadth of their capabilities, though, is the aforementioned Le Sucre project. The venue is a late-night party joint in Lyon, and the graphics subtly reflect its hip vibe while remaining resolutely timeless and simple. Studio La Direction (Elsa Audouin and Aurelien Arnaud) designed the poster and scenography of the second edition of Start Festival with the typeface Maax, created by Damien Gautier.

La Direction (Elsa Audouin and Aurélien Arnaud) chose the Minérale typeface for the graphic design of the exhibition “Le trait de Jupiter”. Institut d’art contemporain (IAC) – Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes entrusted the exhibition's curator to French sculptor Evariste Richer. Designed in osmosis with its landscaped and architectural site – La Ferme de Bourlatier Sagnes-et-Goudoulet (Ardèche), the exhibition proposes to re-examine our relation to the environment in the form of a return to fundamentals. Minérale was created by Thomas Huot-Marchand and released with 205TF in May 2017.
