Founded in Hamburg in 1859 by Andreas Meyer, former employee of Genzsch & Heyse. After Gustav John joined in 1860, the company was called Andreas Meyer & John. From 1865 called J. John Söhne (English: J. John Sons) after Meyer left and Gustav John’s father became sole owner. Destroyed by bombing raids in 1943 and relocated to Lübeck. Went bankrupt in 1956. Johannes Wagner took over the remaining equipment [Reichardt].
