The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, held from 19 February to 9 March, marked the ninth edition of the tournament and was co-hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India clinched their third title by defeating New Zealand in the final, becoming the first team to win the Champions Trophy three times. The branding includes a customised version of Halisa Condensed (with a custom R, K and spacing) with support of a custom version of Averta (with a custom R, K), both from The Designers Foundry.

Born of the Ghanaian capital Accra, W’ahu exists for both those living and loving in Ghana, as well as international readers to which it offers a snapshot of the ‘unwavering creativity’ coming out of the nation’s ‘glamorous and resilient group.’ Of course, this phrasing was not chosen lightly; it’s a true and necessary placeholder ‘for the sake of keeping everyone out of trouble’. As W’ahu’s editors explain:

‘Even within Ghanaian society today, there are many groups who express themselves authentically that are not truly seen for who they are, and are discriminated against as a result. ... What we’re interested in is how the community views themselves through their own eyes when given a platform to do so. What do they want to say—and how do they want to be seen? […]

Physically then, the magazine is slim with a bold blue cover hidden by a second, thin cardboard cover with an eye-shaped cut-out revealing only the title logo, a nod to the the rough translation of the Akan-language phrase w’ahu: ‘Have you seen?’ The rich blue of the cover runs like a vein throughout the magazine’s matt pages, with glossy paper reserved for its vibrant visuals composed of photography, collage, illustration, and photo essays.

Inside this first issue, you’ll find a fashion shoot between friends in the cliff-top village of Akuma; surreal and disembodied collage as a means of ‘pushing back against traditional representations of black femininity’ by Efia Serwah; an exploration of pre-colonial language and its relationship to identity; conversations with queer Ghanaian elders; and submissions from the local community on love, sex, and identity. […]

In short, W’ahu is a particularly important addition to our growing collection of queer magazines and one that will leave you with just a taste of what Ghana’s queer community has to offer.

The main fonts used for the magazine are Anybody and PoW Savon. The W’ahu logo is custom lettering.

“No Man’s Land” appears to be lettering in a style similar to Antique Tuscan Condensed Shade, but with spurs.

“Drama Queens” uses Oi!

Narwa was used for the headline branding of the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Some glyphs like the A and some numerals were customised to help with legibility at small sizes. The secondary typeface is the custom CWC.

Plackers is a brand of floss picks. Since 2017, the logo was based on Noe Display Bold, with a couple of modifications made to it, including a “laughing” eye in e and beefed-up hairlines. It replaced a previous version using Filmotype Harvard. In 2024, Plackers rebranded again. The new logo uses bold round sans-serif letters, possibly from BC Alphapipe.

On the packaging designs, the logo in modified Noe Display is paired with Averta. The geometric sans is used for instructions as well as the slogans, including “Smile like everyone’s watching”.

For the opening of a specialty food market and restaurant in Fontenay, in the eastern suburbs of Paris, we were commissioned by the city to design a classic storefront banner. We proposed a 48-hours "graphic residency" in collaboration with the chef-owner Maëva Petit, to come up with graphics for the event instead. We used the project’s small budget to buy a vinyl plotter machine and material.

Maëva's cooking is known for the use of edible flowers. This was the starting point in our process: we listed the names of the flowers she uses. Like the petals picked to prepare her dishes, both edible as well as aesthetic objects, our aim was to blur the lines between the graphic shapes formed by letters, seen from afar, and the form of words when seen up-close. The exaggeratedly fat drawing of Oi! by Kostas Bartsokas helped us to achieve this effect, as it looked like blocks of color when seen from the opposite sidewalk. We made use of this circumstance to create a range of flower shapes assembled from words collected in our conversation with Maëva.

The flowers were generated with the help of a grid that we also used as a guide to apply the vinyl stickers on the windows.

Desired Landscapes by founding editor and creative director Natassa Pappa is a magazine reading into a diverse mix of cities. Each issue explores the sense of a place and the visual representation of the urban experience. It is a pocket-sized collection of person-to-place bonds, urban observations, and poetic snapshots, seen through the eyes of people who write the stories of today’s cities.

This research expands to further printed matter having the city as a source, such as maps and guidebooks, but also to walking tours and urban research workshops.

Issue 04 arose “from the urge to create a vehicle to travel without traveling. As an unfortunate surprise, that became even more relevant during Covid-19 days. Instead of designing maps of routes, we now count walking distances, to see who are we allowed to see. With this issue, we rethought walking, the hotel, online meetings and telepathy. Sometimes, the experience of reading a text about a city can be more enlightening than an actual visit. And a city's image can be more rewarding.”

The use of Skanaus can be mentioned here especially, as one reason why It came to use is the fact, that it was designed by Daniel Gremme during an exchange semester in Vilnius — one of the cities explored in this issue. Skanaus is a guest typeface alongside the magazine’s stalwart typefaces Farnham and Averta.

Packaging design for Oxygen Species, a series of cosmetics by Derma Organic Science (DOS).
In order to communicate the modern and premium character of the products we created a harmonious and abstract packaging with typographical intensity, pairing Averta with Lynx.

A white color base is used to evoke clarity and purity, while the silver-color details function as the mirrors of the beauty. The visual communication integrated with the chemical symbol of oxygen, attributed as a disc – jewelry of science. The packaging of ‘Mandelicum Night Solution innovative formula’ was awarded by the Skin Advisors of Pure Beauty Global Awards 2020 in London.

Akis Petretzikis constantly innovates with new products and fresh books. At the same time, he is becoming increasingly established in public awareness as a connoisseur in modern Greek cooking. His book aims to become a reference point of the traditional and modern Greek cuisine through its hundreds of favorite recipes and its timeless, friendly design.

We focused on a “Greek” white and blue color palette to highlight tradition and authenticity. Familiar photos with playful illustrative interventions, hand-written notes by Akis and a minimal design create a more personal look and feel and present a contemporary, youthful outcome.

On the cover and in the interior, headlines are set with the reversed contrast BPrever. The all-caps Atypical is used for chapter openings and short texts; the recipes are typeset with Averta. The cookbook, published by Psichogios as Η δική μου ελληνική κουζίνα (“My Greek Cuisine”), is also available in an English-language version named Greek comfort food.

A New Kind Of Kick is a brand perception agency based in London. Celebrating our year end we printed a promotional newspaper documenting the previous 12 months’ projects. The tabloid (289×380 mm) was printed on 90gsm Bright paper with a limited print run which was distributed to clients and friends. Contents includes global watched campaigns for Ingersoll 1892, the reinvention of Trenton, identity for BLK BX, a revolving retail space, as well as branding projects for Mint Pictures, Emit, Choice, and Artistry. The typography exclusively uses Averta.

Dentro offers posters to turn blank spaces into endless opportunities of expression. The brand typography combines the seriffed Domaine Display (Klim) with the geometric sans serif Averta (Intelligent Design/TDF). This pairing is used on the cardboard tubes, the website, and elsewhere.

The project is built around personal expression, in communicating feelings that express one’s true self. These messages are conveyed through exquisite, beautiful and meaningful design. Dentro takes time to find and use the finest materials, and print with the highest quality digital printing systems currently available. Keeping their carbon footprint as small as possible all posters are printed onto paper upcycled from disposable coffee cups, breathing new life into a disregarded product.

Tartan Zone Media is a company specialising in music and event photography and media production from Scotland.

Ground, a cooperative group of designers, created a strong, black-and-white visual identity and stationery for the photographer and filmmaker Tim J. Gray, using geometric shapes as a start point. The fonts in use are Krayewski (Laïc Type Foundry) and Averta (Kostas Bartsokas). Printed by Dot studio on Senses paper.

Centurion Magazine has some of the highest quality content and best recommendations in the world. RWATGG’s design needed to achieve that same “expensive” feeling. Function, aesthetics, a twist of white space, typography and motion all go hand in hand to provide the perfect framework for telling the editorial stories.

RWATGG have created a web app that is responsive down to the last pixel, super light-weight progressive enhanced Single Page Application focusing first on mobile users giving desktop users visual and whitespace-buck for their money.

The web app uses Domaine Display for headings and Averta for body text.

Interaction17 is the conference organised by the Interaction Design Association (IxDA) in New York City, February 3–8, 2017. IxDa is is a member-supported organization dedicated to the discipline of interaction design. Since its launch in 2003, IxDA has grown into a global network of more than 80,000 members and over 173 local groups, focusing on interaction design issues for the practitioner, no matter their level of experience. The theme of the 2017 conference is “Design in Context: Make It Here, Make It Anywhere” and the conference aims to explore how the environment shapes interaction and how designers should respond.

The conference website uses Averta throughout, while the logo is set in the same typeface and features custom made figures for one and seven.

Senic is a hardware startup based in Berlin. Their core product is Nuimo, a controller for your music, lights and more. Nuimo has received a Reddot Award in 2016.

YPERanalysis is a theatre group based in Thessaloniki/Greece. Slab designed the logo and the posters for their first performance. The logo uses a slightly modified Averta (see the detail in P). The posters are all set in Averta, too.
