deMauro + deMauro is a landscape design studio led by sisters Anna and Emilia DeMauro, whose shared intuition for space results in outdoor environments that feel both intentional and deeply organic.

Our latest collaboration with them resulted in a printed piece that acts as an extension of their process: thoughtful, tactile, and quietly expressive. More than a foldout, the booklet is crafted from a mix of materials that allow it to shift, stand, and take shape – much like the landscapes they design.

Through a restrained layout of imagery, curated typography, and intentional white space, the piece offers a quiet introduction to the studio’s philosophy. Designed to be held, unfolded, and revisited, the booklet mirrors the enduring, evolving quality of the spaces they bring to life.

The brand uses Cindie Mono by Lewis McGuffie, a monospaced typeface with a utilitarian structure and subtle warmth that mirrors the studio’s balance of intention and ease. Neureal by Laura Csocsán is introduced in the foldout piece, its fluid, unconventional rhythm bringing a gentle tension that reflects the shifting, sculptural nature of the landscapes.

The designs presented here are part of different issues of El Malpensante (2017–2019), a Colombian magazine of literature and narrative journalism. Art direction and graphic design was provided by me, George Anderson Lozano. In some issues, I was assisted by Natalia Ospina Meléndez. The editor in chief was Karim Ganem Maloof. On this selection of spreads, headlines are set in Tusker Grotesk; body text and paratexts use Tusker Grotesk was used for the headlines.

Industry, season 1 (2020)

Mickey Down and Konrad Kay’s HBO series Industry makes use of a semibold style of Tusker Grotesk by the British graphic and type designer Lewis McGuffie. The title sequence of the drama series that premiered in 2020 has been created by Peter Anderson. Alternately, the title sequence is replaced during the opening or closing of the episodes by a “distorted” version of the title, which is either superimposed on sequences or plain black background.

The logo of the fictional London investment bank Pierpoint & Co. is set in Century Schoolbook (with a slightly titled e). A purple hoodie bearing the company name became so popular that HBO ended up marketing it, along with other fictive corporate merchandise.

Change is a festival about architecture and climate change, a place to share ideas and create connections between architects, universities, and people. A conversation to find solutions and think about how much we impact our way of life.

Data is a tool for measuring changes, which is why we designed a variable data-driven identity system, to show through an easy-to-understand visual system all the changes and their impact on everyday life. A visual identity to attract, raise awareness, and create participation.

Ichigo is a Japanese comfort foods cafe with a casual Americana atmosphere situated in Glasgow. Local design studio Everything Will Be Fine (EWBF), led by Kerr Vernon, configured a playful mix-and-match brand identity that ties the conceptual, visual, and experiential elements of the fusion concept together. As EWBF explains in their project overview,

Ichigo offer an expansive range of Japanese comfort foods. Sushi is made fresh daily in-house and can be ordered by the set or by the individual piece — allowing for creative mixing and matching to each individual’s taste. Our brand identity is inspired by the streets of Tokyo, Japanese minimalism and mid-century Americana. Mascots, Ichi and Igo play a central role in defining the visual language with hidden ingredients in their hairstyles.

The typography is neatly composed with moments of verve, putting it in play with the minimalist yet fun illustrations and colors. The wordmark is set in Borough Grotesk Regular, a revival of a 19th-century grot that also recalls the bold sans serif typography of Tokyo signage. The sturdiness of Borough Grotesk contrasts with a dynamically set Cortado, a brush script with mid-century flavor. Monotalic Medium, used for smaller copy, complements the blocky rhythm of Borough Grotesk while incorporating beats of cursive flair. The Japanese typeface used for “美味い” is Hiragino Kaku Gothic W8.

Station d’Art, une nouvelle vision du tourisme (“Art station, a new vision on tourism”) is a 224-page edition on a cultural and artistic project for the towns of Eaux-Bonnes and Gourette, located in the Pyrénées Atlantiques in the southwest of France. The publication presents a project to revitalize a ghost town and aging ski resort by transforming it into an open-air museum.

Popolo Neroazzurro is an editorial photography book that chronicles the day of celebration outside the gates of San Siro for Inter’s 19th scudetto win in the 2020/2021 season.

We used Tusker Grotesk Semibold and Founders Grotesk. The book has 116 glossy coated pages and measures 210×250 mm, and comes with a milled paperback binding. It was printed in an edition of 25 copies.

21 Princípios Para Viver o Novo (“21 Principles for Living New”) is a Christian motivational book by Talitha Pereira, published by Identitade Store.

Among the fonts that have the best contrast with the one chosen for the body – Avenir Next Condensed – two stood out: Termina and Tusker Grotesk, two more sans typefaces but with a lot of personality and style. Combined on a large scale, they make up a modern and very attractive layout. The decision to transcribe titles vertically is an alternative to depart from the standard of most books in the same segment. It is also a solution that integrates large-scale texts and allows leveling of structure for titles with different amounts of characters and balanced line breaks between words.

A big difference in each chapter are the highlighted phrases. They usually open and close chapters and need special attention. And speaking of phrases, quotes, and the like, having a more timeless and even somewhat classic look, the solution here was to combine a serif font, modern and with a lot of personality. This decision is also a response to that timeless style edge that the idea of ​​principles evokes for the book. Tenez is of Brazilian origin, but has a worldwide distribution. In addition to all its personality, it is a very exclusive font, that is, still little used in graphic projects. Undoubtedly, it is a mix of combinations that communicate more than the graphic style goals of the book, they also identify a little bit of the author’s personality.

We designed a fun and playful e-commerce website for daily supplements brand Health By Habit. Their vitamins are housed in fun, color-coded bottles you’ll want to show off (rather than stash away out of sight and forget about). This website is aims to showcase that same excitement and set users for an energetic and productive vibe.

Tusker Grotesk is used in its Bold style for big headlines, and in SemiBold for subheads. Other subheads use Tiempos Headline; information is set in Univers.

Forest Gum is a plant-based chewing gum with a chicle base without sugar, artificial flavours and synthetic additives. The identity and packaging design was developed by Jens Nilsson in 2019, and announced in early 2020. It mixes various weights and widths of Tusker Grotesk (Lewis McGuffie Type). Athletics (Family Type) is used for accompanying text.

Film posters and main titles for Cidade Inerte (“Inertia City”), a short film directed by Vellas and produced by Wunderman Thompson and Saigon in collaboration with Google and Tribeca Studios. The film was made to raise awareness to one of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development from UN, goal 17: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

The idea behind the design was to portray the everlasting stillness and inertia of a city clustered with cars. Tusker Grotesk was chosen for its narrowness and the claustrophobia that it provokes, particularly when it occupies the whole screen or canvas.

This photography book, Sudetská kronika (Sudeten Chronicle), presents an extensive selection of the lifelong work of Gustav Aulehla (*1931). This construction designer from Krnov developed the principles of humanistic photojournalism of Henri Cartier-Bresson in a small town. From the mid-fifties to the early nineties, he captured with his Leica many unique pictures of everyday life in a smaller town, but also in Olomouc, Ostrava, Opava, and the villages of the Krnov and Bruntál – regions known as the Sudetenland. With his interest in the industrially devastated landscape and the socialist village, he anticipated photographs of half a generation of younger authors from the same region – Viktor Kolář and Jindřich Štreit. A specific part in his work is occupied by photographs from the environment of socialist panel housing estates or soldiers of the Soviet occupation army.

Atmavictu is the new album by Giorgio Scaramucci AKA Eyor, released on 9 April 2021. The official cover was designed by Not Found Studio, using Acqualung. The track listing is set in caps from Tusker Grotesk, combined with ITC Edwardian Script for the guest artists and Helvetica or similar for the numbers and run times.

On the evening of November 9th 2020, Peruvian president Martín Vizcarra was ousted by the national congress on the basis of ‘moral incapacity’ and just five months apart from new elections. Vizcarra had attempted to stamp out deep-seated corruption. Based solely on unproven suspicions, the Peruvian congress ousted him, violating due process and constitutional order. Peru was facing a coup after 20 years of democracy.

The country was shortly ruled by de-facto president Manuel Merino (who previously led the Congress presidency). We, Peruvians, are furious at a group of politicians that have put us in high instability in pursuit of their petty disputes. In the middle of a devastating pandemic, economic recession, and high rates of unemployment, we brace for even harder times. The protests against his government, which occurred throughout the country (as well as in foreign cities around the world), left the death of 2 young protesters, Inti Sotelo and Bryan Jack Pintado, by the excessive police brutality and repression on the night of November 14th (14N). At the noon next day, and with several ministers who had already resigned from the de-facto government, Manuel Merino resigned from the presidency of Peru.

The first series of posters was created an hour after Merino was declared president by the Congress of the Republic. It originally consisted of 3 posters (which was later expanded to 47) and was later titled ‘Not my President’. The base poster, where Merino’s face can be seen along with the repeating typography, was shared by several internet users the night he took office. For the following days – thanks to the open-source license –, the poster obtained a greater reach within the first protests in the city of Lima (and later in other larger cities in Peru). The expanded series, also open source and free to be modified, was shared with the public on Thursday 12, being able to help the protesters to have ready to print A3 posters to be taken to the streets.

The content of these was designed to make a call to action to citizens, to be ironic about the situation through a much more millennial language – with references from pop culture – and criticize and deny the political position of the de-facto president.

“Peruvian: wake the f* up, tomorrow is too late.”

“Gracias por esta inestabilidad” translates to: “Thanks for this unnecesary unestability”.

Ostudlez or Zoé Abravanel is a French graphic designer who likes to experiment with different media and/or typography. For her studio website, she uses Oroban (Blaze Type) as the typeface for text and captions. The wide monospaced sans at the top is Cindie Mono D by Lewis McGuffie Type.

We designed and Risograph printed a limited edition of thirty 2020 calendars, combining lettering with text set in Cindie Mono.

This is the album art (cassette version) for an upcoming record of mine. I love the assertiveness of Cindie Mono. Very modern, very tight. It can really dominate if you let it—in this case that's what I was going for—but it can also be a nice compliment to a looser font like Lazybones, which plays only a bit part here. I found the trophy at a thrift store, Value Village.

This poster is part of a series advertising the services of Bankia, a national bank in Spain. The fonts – Recoleta, paired with what looks like Tusker Grotesk 5600 – and the 1950s vibe of the graphics work well together.

Hip Hub Hooray is a brand new hip-hop festival focussing on bringing together different areas from the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The festival is held in Belgium, and strictly books acts from the EU region. The branding by Davy Denduyver pairs creative illustrations by Xerxes Heirman with Tusker Grotesk.
