Manje Bistre 2 – This time in Canada (2019) is the sequel to Manje Bistre (2017). From IMDb:

The movie follows Sukhi as he goes from India to Canada to attend his cousin, Ganda's wedding - a typical big fat traditional Punjabi wedding.

The script used for the Latin title is Guld Script. The DIN 1451-style font is my Punjabi MMF DIN 1451 Engschrift. It is used in the background for “They are back” and in the subtitle. The pink line says: “But in Canada”. GHP Full is used in the top right corner.

ਪੈਂਡਾ ਇਸ਼ਕੇ ਦਾ (Penda Ishqe Da) is a Punjabi book by ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰੀਰ (Gurpreet Kareer). The book cover uses MMF Khicho, a display typeface in the style of pulled gum. It was released in February 2021.

Bulara is used on the poster for Rohi Biyabaan – Tale of a Barren Land, an Indian Punjabi-language film by Amardeep Singh Gill, starring Yaad Grewal and Kul Sidhu.

Designed in 2009, Bulara – which is Punjabi for the verb “to announce” – is a clean Gurmukhi style, designed to work as a highly legible display font. The ascenders – sihari, bihari, laanv, dullaanv, horda, kanaurda, tippee and adhak – all fit into a smaller height thus giving the rest of the letters more space thus increasing legibility.

It comes in various bold styles as well as true, hollow styles which, unlike many other hollow or outline fonts, has endcaps – something that is peculiar to a lot of Indic fonts where the characters hang down from a line that joins them all together, meaning that the endcaps cannot be included in the individual letters.

Gurvetica is used for the poster of Ucha Pind, an Indian Punjabi-language film directed by Harjit Singh Ricky, starring Poonam Sood and Navdeep Kaler. The other Gurmukhi font is GHP Full, and the English text is set in all-caps Century Gothic.

Designed in 2009 and supplied in many widths and weights, Gurvetica is a font that is designed to give the Gurmukhi world the clarity and legibility that Helvetica gives the Latin-reading world.

The font is normally available in Gurmukhi and Latin although there are versions that have Gurmukhi in the ASCII range instead of Latin characters, using the phonetic layout that is common in Gurmukhi fonts.

However, there are a number of differences between the Latin version of Gurvetica and Helvetica:

Firstly, Gurvetica is mono-linear – if you want it not to be then you can just stretch it a little bit.

Secondly, as the weight increases the lines grow from the centre of the lines, including from the edges. This is because unlike Latin, where the top and the bottom of the font fit between the baseline and the caps height and as the weight increases, it still fits, Gurmukhi has a bar from which the font grows both upwards and downwards so as the weight increases, the centre of this line stays the same so that an emboldened word does not jump up or fall down relative to the words that surround it; and,

Lastly, the ends of the letters are not always horizontal or vertical as they are with Helvetica – this is simply because if the Gurmukhi characters were forces to adopt this characteristic, the font would become ugly.

Rupe is used for the poster of Television (ਟੈਲੀਵਿਜਨ), a 2016 Indian Punjabi-language movie directed by Taj and starring Kulwinder Billa and Mandy Takhar.

The Gurmukhi font Rupe is primarily designed as a display font, although it has the legibility of a body text font as well.

This highly stylised font takes the efficiency of Dukander – eliminating any part of a character that does not help to differentiate it from other characters (such as between ਮ and ਸ) but with the overriding requirement that it is still legible with as little effort as possible – and formalises it into a clean, consistent font.

On this poster, the logo in Dwarka is paired a Latin version set in caps from an unidentified humanist sans (similar to Frutiger). The credits use Lemon Milk, the date is in Daily Mix 3.

Dwarka was used for the logo of Saak (“nuptial”), a 2019 Indian Punjabi-language romantic drama film written and directed by Kamaljit Singh.

Dwarka is designed to work both as a display and body font and sets out to provide a Gurmukhi likeness of Gujarati.

The font has glyphs mapped to both the Gurmukhi range’s standard addresses and also to the ASCII range with a slightly different set of glyphs. The ASCII-range glyphs are all ‘straight-tail’ whereas the glyphs in the Gurmukhi/Unicode glyphs are the ‘curved tail’ variants – being one of the characteristics of the standardised Gujarati that we all see.

The Latin title of the film uses bold caps from Times New Roman. The Arabic typeface is unidentified [see comments]. Text appears to be in Franklin Gothic [more specifically, ITC Franklin Gothic, see comments] or similar.

Dukander was used for the poster of Bambukat (ਬੰਬੂਕਾਟ), a 2016 Indian Punjabi-language period drama film written by Jass Grewal and directed by Pankaj Batra. The Latin title uses Old Press, while all secondary information is shown in Futura Extra Bold Condensed.

Produced in 2008, Dukander is a handwritten Gurmukhi font based upon the form of writing that real people who write Gurmukhi all of the time use for their personal notes to their shopping lists.

The font’s fluidity and familiarity means that Dukandar has been used on the covers of dozens of book and dozens of films including three of the twenty highest grossing Punjabi films – in addition to Bambukat, that’s Ambarsariya (2016) and Punjab 1984 (2014) – as well as cards, T-shirts and curiously, tattoos.

MFF Jashan was used fairly imaginatively in a film called Laatu. The Punjabi period drama is about the electricity industry in India – bijali laatu means “electric light bulb”. This is often shortened to laatu, although laatu on its own, means “top” (as in a child’s toy – spinning top). In the trailer, the movie logo itself is shown as the glowing filament inside a bursting light bulb.

Jashan is Punjabi for “party” or “celebration” and MFF Jashan is the Punjabi take on a party font. The font is also used on the movie posters, here without added effects.

The Latin version of the logo uses Elsie with swash caps.

Many Punjabi films have the title and other text written in English with the Gurmukhi version written smaller. Some, however, have the Gurmukhi text as the main text as is written here. The title ਮੰਜੇ ਬਿਸਤਰੇ has been given a dimensional effect. The letterforms were additionally embellished with a colorful decorative fill, with seams and threads that refer to the textile theme.

GHP Full has been used in over 50 Punjabi films and continues to be the font of choice for a large proportion of the Punjabi film industry.

Secondary typefaces used for the Latin text include MN Latin for the title, Superclarendon for the date, and some version of DIN 1451 Engschrift for the credits.
