Founded in 1906 and headquartered in Chicago, the Ludlow Typograph Company manufactured the Ludlow Typograph, a device for casting slugs of type for the use in letterpress printing. It was specifically used for large sizes such as in newspaper headlines or on posters. Lines of type aren’t composed on a keyboard (as with the Linotype), but by hand-setting mats in a special composing stick. Robert Hunter Middleton served as their primary type designer.
