TT Trailers is signature typeface of Monkeys Restaurant.

Situated on the central beach of Varna, Bulgaria, Monkeys restaurant introduces the idea of exploring good food and enjoying a nice and welcoming atmosphere, allowing visitors to discover something new and not so traditional.

The identity is based on the visual representation of the lost jungle, hand in hand with the feeling of a modern, funky and dynamic brand.

In the menu, TT Trailers is paired with Intro. The type on a curve in the logo is yet to be identified.

Poster for Anatoly Vapirov’s 70th anniversary concert with the Rousse Philharmonic, as a part of the 2017 Varna Summer International Music festival.

Sybilla is used on the cover of Черепно мозъчна травма (Craniocerebral trauma – Diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and legal considerations) by Ilya Vulkov et al., published by Арт Трейсър (Art Tracer). The marble head of a bearded man is from Pergamon, Asia Minor, about 150 BC.

Гущерчето (“The Little Lizard”) is based on Aleksandr Volodin’s play Two Arrows. Stone Age Detective. Produced by the Varna Theater Foundation for the State Puppet Theatre Varna, Bulgaria.

Designer Peter Zhelev uses caps from ParaType’s Cyrillic version of Ad Lib for the title. All smaller text is set in several weights from Karandash’s Basil.

Андалуската котка (Andaluskata Kotka, “Andalusian Cat”) is a play by Alain Giro, adapted by Ludmil Stanev and performed at the Fractorium Dei Movement Theater in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The poster was designed by Peter Zhelev using Sybilla and Sybilla Stroke. The latter is part of the Sybilla Multiverse series.

Basil in use on the poster for the 2016 edition of the International Regatta Cor Caroli in Varna, Bulgaria. “Cor Caroli” is similar to ITC Avant Garde Gothic.

Promotional posters for the New Bulgarian Typography exhibition which was organized as part of the Sofia Design Week 2013 in Varna.

The 2019 edition of the Varna Summer International Music Festival featured a concert by violinist Mario Hossen and the Varna Symphony Orchestra. The promotional materials were designed by Stalker Studio, using Basil (Karandash) and HS Grotesk. “Varna Summer” appears to be lettering.

Label for Rakia Sharovica Karabunar, a grape brandy from Bulgaria. For the label typography, Jordan Jelev (The Labelmaker) combined capitals from Estimo (Karandash) with his own FM Bolyar (The Fontmaker, together with Vassil Kateliev).

Wine label design for Orbelia, a small family-run winery located in one of the most interesting wine regions of Bulgaria – Struma Valley. The typography uses Sybilla Soft by Karandash. From The Labelmaker:

I used a very elegant serif typeface [Friz Quadrata] for the Orbelia brand and overprinted it with transparent varnish. The logo above is done with two layers – the bottom one is for the logo solid silhouette stamped with copper hot foil and the top one is for the logo artwork printed with silk-foil with a good level of embossing. Playing with matt and glossy materials from the same color is something that I do very often, and I really love the result.
The label has a classic shape with rounded corners. I decided to use a matrix typeface with dots to print the vintage year in the background behind the variety and thus make the design more interesting with a touch of modernity. The Estate Reserve text is stamped with copper hot foil and is hand-lettered by me on iPad Pro.

Архитектурен Пленер (Architectural Planner) is an open discussion about refurbishing the old Varna commercial port into a series of public art spaces.

Since 2017, the visual identity of the International Jazz Festival Varna Summer uses the Basil typeface. The posters and program booklets were designed by Stalker Studio. On their Facebook pages, they also share images from previous years of the festival: 1991–2000, 2001–2007, 2008–2015.

Varna 2017:

Sounds from Talyana for the first time presents an audio recording of the creative identity of Varna. This is the mark of the living sound of Varna scenes, clubs, basements, benches, garages and ceilings.

The Labelmaker:

Quantum is the top-selling wine brand by Domaine Boyar. The company needed a fresh eye-catching wine label design and I was commissioned to create it. The old look of the wines was already out of time, so I was very sure they would need something completely new to continue with good sales.

I kept the brand name and the classic tapered bottle as a foundation of my new project and started dreaming of an amazing eye-catching wine label design. It was really easy and fun brainstorming with a mighty word like Quantum so I did more than five inspiring proposals based on different ideas. Luckily the one I liked the most was my client’s favorite design, too.

I created a very large label to cover most of the bottle with paper. I picked — like in many other projects of mine — the Snow Country paper by Arconvert for its very delicate texture, matt finish and excellent performance in different climate conditions.

The focal point of the label is an artistic modern letter Q stamped with different colors of hot foil, depending on whether the wine is white, red, or rose. The letter measures some 4 cm in height, so it’s really huge. The reflections of the hot foil are so tasty when you rotate the bottle in your hands that everyone is enchanted by this eye-catching wine label design.

I also created a linear pattern from the top right corner of the label towards the letter Q because I wanted somehow to concentrate more details, attention and even more energy around it. On the other hand, I did not want to make too much visual noise as I was looking for an elegant and clean look, so I decided to print these lines with transparent varnish. I like playing with varnish. Raised varnish gives very gentle reflections in different light conditions without changing dramatically the overall appearance of the artwork.

Having started with a typographic key element, I wanted to keep a very simple and good typography for the rest of the label. The bottom half holds the brand and a short message explaining the essence behind the Quantum name. I made a simple left-aligned composition of heading and body text using one of my favorite sans-serif font families – Quasimoda Pro by Lettersoup. I like using this family on my wine labels because it’s one of the best modern typefaces that can give you a clean, contemporary and legible look of your texts, and if needed, you can pick from a range of weights.

At the very bottom of this modern eye-catching wine label design I signed ‘Domaine Boyar’ using handwriting and stamped it with hot foil. I also tried to somehow match the color of the capsule with the color of the hot foil because I wanted to enhance the meaning of color scheme in the whole packaging.

As a result, from all my efforts I created a very modern and minimal-looking eye-catching wine label design where the play with different print processes along with good paper choice are almost everything that this packaging will need to shine among the others on the shelf.
