Suped Up is the new power-pop project of Brian Dove and Noah Bowman. The band released two singles, “Crosswords” and “No Ghost No Problem” ahead of the release of their debut self-titled album (out April 25, 2025 via Hilltop Recordings).

As one half of said duo, I got to take the lead on creating assets for the new album, which was a great excuse to use some of my favorite fonts (and one of my own)!

The album artwork and cassette packaging uses PicNic for the band name and track listing, with Gayot New Thin for accents and the wider side of Obviously’s variable font for smaller typesetting.

On the album release show poster, Megazoid makes an appearance and Obviously’s variable axes get put to further use.

The lyric video for the single “No Ghost No Problem” also features PicNic, Gayot New, and Obviously.

Birder’s Journal and Forager’s Log notebooks by West Virginia design studio Big Fog. This pair of complementary notebooks was made to help document your findings on outdoor adventures. Each notebook is Riso printed and spiral bound with a glow in the dark coil.

The Birder’s Journal cover is set in Big Fog’s own Discotack (available from Blaze Type), while the Forager’s Log makes use of the bolder side of Undercase Type’s Fraunces. Both notebooks feature Spoof Light for the smaller typesetting on the cover and interior pages.

New brand identity and product labels for SoSS, a hot sauce company based in Charlottesville, VA. The logo, brand identity, and core product labels were designed by West Virginia-based design studio Big Fog. Label illustrations for Reaper's Blush and Watermelon Dragon by Alex Luciano and Meel Tamphanon, respectively.

The SoSS logotype is a customized Zoo Condensed with thicker thin strokes, softer corners, and stylized strokes under the O. The brand identity utilizes VC Henrietta for display and headlines, Swear Medium for subheadlines, and Degular as a supporting text face.

Brand identity and website for TriFlorals, a wedding and event florist in Raleigh, NC. The identity, designed by Big Fog, features Cristian Vargas' gorgeous Salvaje Display in the logo, which is paired with Windsor for headlines, Syne Bold for subheadlines, and Pretend Foundry’s Pinopolis for body copy. TriFlorals approached us wanting to create a brand that was different than your typical florist. They wanted to stick out from the traditional wedding crowd with a welcoming energy. One of their main goals is to “demystify flowers” and encourage people to “get hands on stems”—to make the joy of working with flowers less intimidating and more accessible.

As it says on their website, Science™ really does say that looking at flowers makes you feel better, so we wanted the TriFlorals brand to feel like stumbling on a field of bright blooms, like the first day of Spring all the time. We created their logo and brand identity (including brand fonts, brand colors, and brand illustrations), and then designed and built their WordPress website. The site features a growing collection of illustrations and animations.

This publication is neither literature or art. While it contains echoes of those things, it strives to be nothing other than itself, which is a physical result of creative and cultural unrest in the present moment. Based out of Morgantown, West Virginia, Sunday Paper looks towards neither the past or the future. We only aim to embody the urgency and unbridled freedom of artistic expression within a depreciated medium. This zine is meant to be a flash in the pan—as are all of us who walk upright into the familiar unknown that is the next moment, creating only to escape ourselves.

Six words and a font that kind of looks like blown glass. How to set them?

Step 1. Center “New American Glass”, placing the colon optically.
Step 2. Shift “New” slightly to the left so its corner meets the M.
Step 3. Align the U in “Focus” with the A in “Glass”, to mirror their shapes.
Step 4. Align the S in “West” with the S in “Focus”, to make a stack of three.
Step 5. Align the N in “Virginia” with the T in “West”.
