The main overlapping “t-u-n-n-e-l” letters (patterned after Univers 85) have been printed from two blocks of hand-cut linoleum that have been alternatingly exchanged on the press and reduced between each printing pass.

The small copy (in 48pt Ludlow Condensed Gothic No. 2) has been cast manually from Ludlow hot metal slugs and overprinted in four passes to get the full opacity.

The bücherraum f is a double library and a cultural meeting place at Zurich’s Oerlikon train station. Over the past five years, Helen Ebert has created the flyers and posters in a very unique and impressive series. Based on Helen Ebert’s previous concept, Regular Practice is now creating the program and flyers using the typface NN Swinton.

Two sizes of letterpress printed posters from the same lino-cuts, with the upcoming program of Tunnel, a club in Glarus, Switzerland. The smaller posters (35×50 cm) are sections from the larger formats (70×100 cm).

The letters T-U-N-N-E-L have been created by casting and letterpress proofing 144pt Ludlow mats of Karnak Bold Condensed. This is a rare face in this size and I definitely wanted to use it. With the scans of these letters, I produced scaled up, hand-cut, movable linocut letters that could then be printed on the large posters. Since freshly cut letters are individual movable sorts, the letters have been printed line by line with a split fountain, and moved down continuously. Watch the video!

The small event information has been cast from Ludlow Condensed Gothic No. 2 mats and printed from the cast hot-metal slugs.

In the video you see that with the same printing elements, a total of three program posters for in two sizes have been produced. A tricky system to be able to print two sizes from the same printing formes. Firstly, the split-fountains have been printed on large sheets for both the small and the large posters. Then the sheets for the small posters got cut in half to be overprinted with just the upper half of the linoleum cut. Then they got cut in half again to be finished on a smaller press. The large versions stayed uncut and got finished on the large press, printed with the same hand-cut linoleum block. Watch the whole video, you’ll figure it out!

“Lies, Money, Fraud, Sex, Drugs, Jesus” — poster by Davi Kühne, letterpress printed in his Babyinktwice studio, for an art exhibition dealing with the process of illegal reproduction of famous paintings and the scandals that go together with it.

Printed in six print runs from lasercut wood blocks, traditional plastic poster type and metal type.

For this event poster for the Veka Glarus club in Glarus, Switzerland, designer and printer Dafi Kühne cut new sorts of Paul Renner’s Plak from original wood type on his pantograph. The medium sized text is set in Anzeigen Grotesk (Haas, resin type version on lead body) and the small type is Schmale Grotesk. The poster is printed in four colors and took 19 hours to print. See this process video, or check Dafi’s website Babyinktwice for more information.

From Dafi’s explanation:

Each event is formulated as a question asking about something that got lost at the last – or better upcoming – event. For example: ‹I lost my red cap with a soviet star at the Bajanski Bal concert. Did you find it?› – below the information about the upcoming Bajanski Bal concert. But also more abstract like: ‹After the last Futurerave I forgot the phone number of that very beautiful bartender. Could you please help me out?› or ‹Fai Baba stole my heart! Could I get it back?›.

All the questions and statements refer to the lost and found departement at Veka-Glarus, that is always filled with loads of stuff that's been left behind. In the lower right corner of the poster comes the answer: ‹For all the lost and forgotten things please just visit us at any event. Our lost and found departement is always filled with surprises.›

The posters were letterpress printed at Benjamin Franklin Printing Co. in Richmond, Virginia, using freshly cast lines of type from a Ludlow Typograph. A video of the process gives some insight into the production techniques.
