We selected Chroma Sans, a humanist typeface from Calderón, which resonates with the organic and personal touch we put into every detail. Its fluid and natural shapes draw attention to each character, much like the careful craftsmanship that goes into every cup of Café Plantel coffee.

The wordmark appears to be custom drawn.

This QSL card features the kräftig and fett weights of Erbar-Grotesk. It documents a contact from 5 January 1979, but it could have conceivably been designed years, or even decades earlier. The call sign seems to mix in glyphs from another heavy sans which, despite the characteristic 2, hasn’t been identified yet.

The bold serif on the back of the card appears to be Aurora (or Corona?).

Series of posters made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the renowned Edificio Steinvorth, or Steinvorth Music Hall, in San José, Costa Rica. The typography uses several weights from Rainer. The ultracondensed face is paired with News Gothic for smaller type.

Pisuicas is a new beer produced by La Micro Brewing Company in Costa Rica.

The name of this beer is a folksy word for “devil” and designer Arnold Hoepker developed a devilishly clever ad campaign for it for the agency Wooki Colectivo. Most of the ads feature simple sentences where the word “devil” is replaced by an image of the product itself (this is corrected from “beer”, see comment below). The text is flipped horizontally, disorienting readers and forcing them to pause and parse the text. The red color palette is the obvious choice, and helps the image of the product stand out.

The typeface is Nickel, my first release for the new Font of the Month Club. Arnold has been a member of the club since the very beginning, and I believe this is the first commercial use for a Font of the Month. I couldn’t be happier.
