Béton is a pop music festival that takes place every summer in the French city of Le Havre. The city went through a long process of revitalisation after the WW2 bombing, hosting a mix of modern urbanism and brutalist architecture that can be found in the buildings such as the Volcano by Oscar Niemeyer, the apartment blocks and St. Joseph church by Auguste Perret, among many others.

The idea behind the graphic work is to explore a rigid grid that emphasises the brutal landscape of Le Havre, paying reference to the ortogonal urban planning, the patterned facades and also the diversity of the artists featured in the festival.

The identity is made with Right Grotesk by Pangram Pangram and Favorit by Dinamo.

In 2007, an exhibition in three parts was organized around the work of André Baldinger and Philippe Millot. The exhibition, named Ping-Pong, Échange visuel presented a selection of their work from the last ten years. From type design to signage, through visual identity or the design of books and posters or scenography, their work covers a wide spectrum of visual expression and is regularly the subject of publications, awards and distinctions.

The exhibition was shown at Ecole régionale des beaux-arts de Besançon (ERBA; now known as L’Institut supérieur des beaux-arts de Besançon), ESAD d’Amiens, and Bibliothèque universitaire du Havre.

They used BVH BDot as the main typeface, to evoke ping pong balls, accompanied from time to time by BVH Eiffel Level.

This book is a reissue of the novel Le Sixième Sommeil (“The Sixth Sleep”) by Bernard Werber, made as part of a school project at ESADHaR.

The main character, Jacques Klein, evolves within an intrigue deeply linked to the world of dreams. His mother, a sleep doctor, and his father, a navigator, invite him at different stages of his life to become aware of the importance of dreams and the possibility of traveling in deeper and deeper phases of sleep.

Playing on the blue of the seas explored by Jacques while echoing the work of another Klein, the color blue occupies a special place in this reissue. The iconography is made up of photographic compositions created according to the principle of cymatics. This neologism designates a technique for visualizing acoustic vibrations. It echoes the resonance frequencies of the brain that vary according to the different stages of sleep.

This is the first catalog of Une Saison Graphique (“A Graphic Season”), a yearly event celebrating graphic design that started in 2011. For two months, the city of Le Havre in France is its epicentre with exhibitions, meetings, lectures, and events around graphic design and graphic designers.

The 500 covers are printed on test sheets of original posters of Une Saison Graphique. Each one is unique. Inside, the texts and image booklets offer a parallel reading of the graphic work of each exhibitor.

Atelier Choque Le Goff used Rauschen B for the identity and website of Béton Le Havre Festival 2021. The festival weekend is a unifying, multi-disciplinary event where music, gastronomy and architecture interwine in a transversal way. It took place along the grand quai.

The event Une Saison Graphique exists since 2009. It takes place every year in Le Havre and other places in Normandy. Dedicated to contemporary graphic design, bringing together several events in different cultural venues, it offers exhibitions, meetings, workshops, conferences, and urban events.

Une Saison Graphique welcomes nationally and internationally renowned graphic designers with a series of monographic exhibitions offering a broad panorama of contemporary graphic design. Each year, all invited graphic designers have to make a poster for the festival that will be on display in the city.

In 2019, I was invited to do a workshop with students from the University of Le Havre Normandie and make an exhibition about it.

Éditions Non Standard:

… a selection of one hundred photographs of signs located in Le Havre, France. The signs are organised in five chapters and analysed accordingly: industry, public service, independent shops, franchise, seaside and temporary signs.
