Poster series for an autumn break party organized by Non Linear Narrative first year students at the KABK, the Royal Academy for the Arts in The Hague, Netherlands.

Sketchy, bright and vivid elements embrace fun and failure. Dance as wild as you like! As the posters were mounted briefly before the evening, pointing out it’s “this Friday” actually makes sense. We chose Magiel from Warsaw Types due to its heavy, straightforward but somehow lovely appearance, and set it in lowercase to have a very compact counterpart of the wild and uncontrolled illustrations.

Fergus describes itself as “a user-friendly online grocery store with a 100% organic offering and an easy and convenient subscription-free delivery service.” The design is by Principal who commented:

Our goal was for Fergus to stand out in this quite homogeneous market that is organic online shopping, and to translate the pleasure of eating into a sustainable and unifying language, with a touch of magic.

The logo is based on Eckmannpsych by OH no Type Co., “redrawn to reflect the magic of agriculture”. The bilingual website (English and French) combines FF Bau (FontFont) with Suisse Int’l Mono (Swiss Typefaces).

Chesstempt is a project aimed to promote the game of chess and make it more accessible through communication and pedagogic content. It was made for my bachelor thesis at LISAA Strasbourg.

The typeface WT Kormelink is used for the main content and for the lowercase logo. I wanted to use a serif typeface to recall the prestige of the chess game and contrast it with these abstract piece shapes. Moreover, this typeface have this beautiful st ligature which correspond perfectly with the idea of connecting "chess" and "attempt". It’s supported by IBM Plex Sans for the website and for all the printed documents to learn the game.

The game of chess knew a golden age during the Cold War when it was considered as a measure of intelligence between the two blocs. At the end of this period and with the arrival of computers, the popularity of the game slowly declined until chess was considered as a game difficult to access, meaningless and reserved for intellectuals. Yet this is a vision that contradicts the very essence of the game, which advocates values of equality and has benefits that are often overlooked.

Artwork for the “Turta” single and the accompanying concert tour by Finnish rap artist Adi L Hasla. Art direction & photography by Julian Schröpel (Simbayu) with 3D by Rax. Made for Universal Music Finland. The font in use is Elves Extended, a freebie version of Edda made by Arts & Letters Corporation in 2001.

In 2011, on the occasion of the 22nd International Festival of Graphics and Poster of Chaumont and the 8th edition of Laterna magica in Marseille, Jérôme Saint-Loubert Bié designed this exhibition catalog dedicated to the American artist Ed Fella. For this book, Jérôme Saint-Loubert Bié (in collaboration with Cécile Binjamin) used an early version of the font Garaje 0703 Black.

Through his thousands of drawings, Polaroids, collages, posters ... Ed Fella has been exploring typography and the American landscape since the early 1960s, and has invented a style whose singularity has earned him international recognition. His work is the site of a permanent dialogue between art and design, and is part of a complex filiation which starts from Art Nouveau, goes through Dada, surrealism, abstract expressionism, pop art, beat generation, psychedelic graphics ... With Ed Fella, these kinships intersect, add up and make up in mirror a multiplicity of meanings, readings, and possible interpretations of each of his works. Layer by layer his work is made, layer by layer it can be read.

Every year, Mailchimp goes all out for their annual report, but never with so many typefaces from so few foundries. The website is a simple scroll featuring a poster for each statistic about the company in 2019.
