It’s 2021, and humanity is broken. The world cannot get its shit together to do anything about climate change. That’s why we're releasing the all-new Climate Catastrophe Pack, which comes with 30 cards about how fucked we all are. 100% of the profits will go to @rainforestcoalition to help stop deforestation. The pack also comes with thousands of tree seeds you can plant yourself.

The Climate Catastrophe Pack, a combination of the favorite board game and a fight against climate changes, is visually presented by the typeface Spektra, designed by Type Salon, with information set in Neue Helvetica.

Source: www.climatecatastrophepack.com License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: www.climatecatastrophepack.com License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: www.climatecatastrophepack.com License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: www.climatecatastrophepack.com License: All Rights Reserved.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use

Stories from the Promised Land (1991), a multicultural anthology of American fiction edited by Wesley Brown & Amy Ling, with stories written by authors of diverse cultural backgrounds. The same typography was also used for the non-fiction companion, Visions of America. Personal Narratives from the Promised Land (1993).

Both books were designed by REM Studio, Inc., pairing the tall forms of MGB Patrician with ITC Serif Gothic, the flare-seriffed cousin of the geometric ITC Avant Garde Gothic. Patrician was designed by Don Munson, former art director of Ballantine Books, and first made available as a Typositor exclusive at Haber Typographers, NYC. In 1980, it was adopted by Letraset for dry-transfer lettering, credited to MGB Communications Ltd. In many regards, it can be regarded as a compressed relative of ITC Benguiat.

This company emerged from Lubalin, Smith, Carnase Inc. (LSC) after Peckolick became a partner in 1974.

The quotes (“Jesus help me, cause man won’t.”, “I walk soft, but I hit hard.” etc.) are set in ITC Gorilla. Designed by Tom Carnase and Ronné Bonder for ITC in 1970, this face was digitized by Bitstream. MyFonts mentions that the design idea was “borrowed from Post Oldstyle”.

“Short Eyes” is lettering based on ITC Serif Gothic Heavy (1974) by Herb Lubalin and Tony Di Spigna. With the top-heavy initial S that is echoed at the end of the second line and the similarity of h and y (as well as o and e), the lockup evokes a mirror effect. The credits are set in light ITC Avant Garde Gothic, designed by Lubalin and Carnase in 1970.

Peckolick died in 2017 at the age of 76. The New York Times obituary has examples of his work – and a quote about his attention to typographic detail: “I kept getting fired from these agencies,” [Peckolick] recalled, “because I spent too much time worrying about what the type looked like instead of selling the soap.”

Source: artsandculture.google.com Nuyorican Poets Cafe. License: All Rights Reserved.

@oknovokght. License: All Rights Reserved.

Recreation using the digital ITC Gorilla, made by @oknovokght, 2020.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use

The tunes on this soundtrack album are in fact a "best of" compilation of tunes composed by Siegfried Schwab and Manfred Hübler from their albums Psychedelic Dance Party (1969) and Sexadelic (1970).

The films Vampyros Lesbos (1971), She kills in ecstasy (1971) and the The devil came from Akasava (1971) all share tunes from this collection. Besides their soundtrack these films also share the same director, Jesús “Jess” Franco, and a few cast members (most notably the stunning Soledad Miranda, as seen here on the cover).

Toner van Bach is listed in the liner notes of this album as the one responsible for art work.

Source: 12in.ch License: All Rights Reserved.

Source: 12in.ch License: All Rights Reserved.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use
