This immersive visual survey offers an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes exploration into Nike’s ethos-driven design formula, placing industry-defining innovations and globally recognized products alongside previously unpublished designs, prototypes, insider stories, and more.

The book’s extraordinary design also nods to its contents. The striking cover features overlapping silkscreened layers of Nike’s proprietary Volt yellow and Hyperpunch pink colors overlaying an image of world-champion marathoner Eliud Kipchoge printed in a half-tone dot pattern. Recurring design elements help to add structure: one title typeface – Signs – and one text typeface – Antique Legacy. Tables of contents for each chapter; relatively large, single-column essays without pictures; and series of illustrations of shoes in a variable grid layout with two-column commentaries at the bottom of the page. The book’s spine, visible through the clear jacket, showcases a series of colored tabs that extend from its interior pages and which are referenced in the book’s bonus chapter, “Crafting Color.”

Combining 500 color illustrations with stories, insights, knowledge, passion, and history shared by Nike’s remarkable team, Nike: Better is Temporary will serve as a manual of innovation and inspiration for generations to come.

JAJU was a traditional Korean lifestyle brand, looking to drastically change course with a focus on smaller road shops for a younger target audience. Under the creative concept “All Good”, a brand identity was created that was uplifting and reflected true Korean simplicity. Building on references originating in traditional Korean culture – such as the iconic Taegukgi flag and the classic ogansaek color palette – the new brand identity featured elements that, with a contemporary twist, let JAJU’s proud Seoul heritage shine through. The identity gained its character and uniqueness through the JAJU label logo, which was able to transform, stretch and stack itself to create expressive and playful compositions. The label system also adapted to carry key brand communication by placing it into its four corners, creating a simple tool for direct and tactical statements.

The custom typeface JAJU by e-Types is used throughout the identity. The Korean text is likewise bespoke.

This short film is a collaboration between Spanish fashion magazine Chapelle and 26-year-old singer Paula Cendejas who recently released her latest EP, Contragolpe. The clip featuring the song “Sabaneta” was produced by Féminin Films, with creative, art and styling direction by Eduardo Jairycovich, and graphic design by Borja Flores.

The primary font in use here is Gosna, used in all caps. The display font is reminiscent of brush strokes flowing in a dynamic and gestural manner. Gosna is inspired by jazz solo improvisations and can benefit any text with a lively musical quality. Each stroke is indeed thought of as a phrase, filled with tension and release.

“Paula Cendejas” is added in all-caps Thunderstorm. “Fashion film” is set in Snell Roundhand. The sans is Sailec.

On October 19, 1989, a fashion show by Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela took place on a playground in the 20th arrondissement of Paris.

The book contains a metaphor for a play with characters – monologues by Martin’s friends, colleagues, models and other participants in that event. There are also 11 acts-chapters in which the action of the show unfolds. Invitations for the guests were drawn by local children, who later became participants in the show itself.

The navigation of the book is arranged in such a way that we count only spreads. They are always listed on the side of the page and are circled in order from 1 to 37. There is also a separate spread in the book dedicated to the music played on the show (there is a QR code for the original recording on the soundcloud), as well as spreads with a little history about the area itself, which served as a platform for the show.

Rodebjer’s standard typeface used for the logo and other text is GT Sectra.

F37 Judge by F37 Foundry is used by Studio Freight for the official online merch store of Patrick Mahomes II, American football quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Studio Freight employed F37 Judge Bold Condensed as a headline font, using large typography across the site, making it impressionable and modern. F37 Judge has been paired with GT Pressura by Grilli Type for the menu and all smaller text.

Gray’s Degree Show is the yearly show of graduating students hosted and managed by Gray’s School of Art at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. In 2020, for obvious reasons, it was hosted online. Site by Design and Code. The site included a 3-D gallery where students could display their work in virtual space. ABC Diatype and ABC Monument Grotesk Mono in use by Zak Group:

Zak Group teamed up with Virgil Abloh to design ICONS, a new book that documents Abloh’s oeuvre at Nike and gives shape to a cultural history of sneakers.

In 2016, Nike and Virgil Abloh joined forces to create a sneaker collection celebrating ten of the Oregon-based company’s most iconic shoes. ICONS offers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes view into this industry-defining collaboration, bringing together all the greats — including Air Jordan 1, Air Max 90, Air Force 1, and Air Presto.

The first part of the book catalogues a visual culture of sneakers and Abloh’s investigative, creative process through original text messages from Abloh to Nike designers and rare materials from the brand’s archives. We worked closely with Abloh to select never-before-seen prototypes and art direct a series of photographs by Sergiy Barchuk.

A lexicon in the second part defines the key people, places, objects, ideas and materials from which the project grew. Entries like ‘Marcel Duchamp’, ‘Illinois Institute of Technology’, ‘open source’ and ‘ready-made’ provide an evolving vocabulary underpinning the project. Texts by Nike’s Nicholas Schonberger, writer Troy Patterson, curator and historian Glenn Adamson, and Virgil Abloh with Emily Segal frame the collaborative work within fashion and design history.

The electric volt green cover features the original 1971 swoosh by designer Carolyn Davidson framed by Abloh’s addition SOMETHING’S OFF. An eight-page gatefold charts the entirety of Abloh’s prolific output including the original ten icons and the 50 designs released over the following three years.

The iconography that’s woven into the visual language functions as a continuation of the illustrative designs prominent in the products. This approach aims to enhance the effectiveness of long texts and helps spread WWF’s messages to wider, younger audiences.

The font choice of NN Nouvelle Grotesk represents the brand's ambitious and playful nature. The clean cut feel of the font helps to deliver WWF campaign messages in a neutral, accessible and engaging manner.

To this day, the NGOs famous panda logo is the most recognizable symbol for global conversation and a celebrated sign of hope. For this reason, WWF Market’s branding is built around this iconic symbol.

For the sixth year in a row, Mucho has teamed up with UC Investments to design their annual report.

UC Investments is the investment arm of the University of California. For the past six years, they have made sure to support the university system, seeing it through different moments, like when the longest-running market expansion in history came to an end, and a global pandemic. They had the experience to navigate uncertain times, and the yearly numbers reflected this. Through steady leadership, strong partnerships and strategic creativity they were ready.

2020 having been a very newsworthy year, Mucho took a more editorial approach. The title of the report is aptly called “Made for this moment”. This title highlights not only that UC’s investments were made for this moment, but also alludes to the uncertainty of 2020, a year filled with many significant, historic moments.

The bespoke envelope the report was delivered in was designed with eye-catching, striking graphics, highlighting major news stories from around the world.

The report was a limited-run publication, printed in black and white. It features bold, dynamic use of condensed headline sans (NSW 01 and Plaak), in clever contrast with serif (Lyon). The publication concludes on the year’s figures printed on yellow paper.
