Rebrand for men’s hair and wellness studio Shinko (新古; “new and old”) from earlier this year. Unfortunately the studio was forced to close as a result of Melbourne’s lockdown before this brand could hit the ground, but fingers crossed it’s something they can revisit in the future.

An enormous thanks to Fabian from ABC Dinamo for not only his time and kindness, but supplying the custom weight of Monument Grotesk to match the blackletter. Also a special thank you to Ryo Takara for assisting with the kanji.

Flyer artwork for a club night by Fucket Freakkvens, an Oslo-based rave collective, at Hausmania Kulturhus.

Inspired by traditional Italian signage, Pellegrino 2000 is a trattoria opened in 2021 in Surry Hills, Australia. The brand identity was developed by the Sydney-based SCCO Studio, with designer Jarmaine Stojanovic stating: “We wanted to create something that gave an ode to the chaotic approach traditional restaurants have in Italy, especially with the claustrophobic feel regarding visual imagery.”

The logo is composed of Büro Destruct’s BD Equipment and BD Pipe, and VTC Eva Duarte from Vocal. Further entrenching the brand’s links to Italy, the red and gold palette was chosen to reference the AS Roma football club. The branded restaurant tote bag was sold out online prior to the restaurant’s opening, a testament to the effectiveness and popularity of Stojanovic’s work.

Student assignment from ESAD Matosinhos 2021: “redesign a paperback pocket book or travel book. The chosen work must be timeless and have gathered consensus regarding its quality.”

From the selection list of the El País newspaper I picked C by Tom McCarthy. The novel tells the story of a boy who spends his childhood between silence and the noise of static, and all his life was marked by the mysteries of communication: by codes used during the First World War, by seances in London after the war, and by enigmas of Egypt. C is “an ambitious and original novel in its historical and psychological scope”.

For the book’s core I chose Feijoa, from Klim Type Foundry, a contemporary and well-designed typeface. I chose it because it is serifed, which makes it easier to read in long texts.

For the rest of the book (in titles, subtitles, pagination, among others), I used Neue Haas Grotesk, an older design, however, modern. The choice of this font is also due to the fact that it is a grotesque, associating it with something austere and sober at the same time.

The C on the cover is a cut circle (very similar to the C in the Futura typeface), representing the life cycle of the main character and how it was shortened by not so good events throughout the story.

Pilote Paris designed RN13BIS’s new visual identity. The design concept is based on a pair of contrasted fonts: Söhne by Klim Type Foundry and Panama by Temporary State.

RN13BIS is a regional network which brings together 23 structures and places of contemporary art in the Normandy region in France. RN13BIS also band together artists, authors, curators working to promote, support, disseminate, produce and publish research and artistic creation. We also designed a new website and the first issue of their new annual magazine called Insert.

For the third Pasta Social Club hosted by chef Fabrizio Ricotta at 83 Dalston Lane on New Year’s Eve we decided to mantain the illustrative style and asked our friend and talented artist Viola Pravettoni to help us with the visuals.

Here Le Murmure (Velvetyne) is used for the main headlines and copy is set in Galgo (Giulia Boggio). We loved the idea of using two open source typefaces, as a nod to our group of friends with many skills coming together to help craft Fabrizio’s visual identity and events.

Photographers and film makers/directors Bas Van Est and Chris Sisarich have teamed up under the name Bas & Chris. The duo’s identity was designed by how by why, using Suisse Int’l, with initials from Respira Black. From basandchris.com:

Nobody knows how long Bas Van Est and Chris Sisarich stumbled through the desert in Oman before the Bedouin picked them up. The two photographers had run out of food and water long ago and had been forced to ration their memory cards to just one shot a day.

They were carried by camel to a small oasis, nursed back to health on a diet of warm goat’s milk and spent days resting under the date palms where they had an epiphany. The two internationally awarded photographers would combine their talents and become a team. A formidable and outrageously talented mashup with a fresh take on image-making.
