“Think Love” is the title of the 14th edition of the monthly music listening sessions organized by Puing Records, Seoul, South Korea, where we listen to songs selected based on a main theme, share related stories, and our thoughts. In this event, I was responsible for designing motion graphics, print-out posters and leaflets for the theme.

This children's book was designed to accompany the Louvre exhibition Les Choses. Une histoire de la nature morte (“Things. A History of Still Life”) in 2022 and features Self Modern by Lucas Le Bihan for titles, text set in Fraunces from Undercase Type and highlights in Indian Type Foundry’s Quilon.

Showcasing a selection of works featured in the exhibition, it underlines art permanent inspiration in life and human preoccupations (such as life, death, beliefs, science, nature...).

Alongside each work are anecdotes, quotes or philosophical concepts putting it in perspective with the world we live in. Some pages even feature activities, playfully inviting readers to look more closely.

It was co-published by Éditions Courtes et Longues and Louvre éditions.

Deus ex Machina is a lifestyle brand rooted in Sydney, Australia. We recently featured a no-nonsense jacket from their collection. This time we’d like to share two apparel prints that are undoubtedly about having fun – fun with content, and fun with fonts.

The first one is a T-shirt titled “Pipes”. In it, a cartoon from the Andy Capp series, very famous in Great Britain and Australia, stands central. It depicts a man playing a phantasy instrument reminiscent of bagpipes. The punchline below reads “loud pipes save lives” which is a famous excuse among motorcyclists to justify the noise of their machines. This line as much as the brand name above the drawing displays Cardinal Fruit, a sub-family in the larger Cardinal collection designed and published by Production Type under the guidance of Jean-Baptiste Levée. Cardinal Fruit is a condensed roman style referencing the advertising aesthetics of the 1980s, especially in the field of personal computers. “Deus Recs and Publishing” is added in Grilli Type’s GT America Mono.

The prints on the “Nimbus” shirts and longsleeves feature Cardinal Fruit, too. It’s used for the brand name, combined with Deerfield JNL, a boxy all-caps sans designed by Jeff Levine, for “Worldwide Service Manual”. Here the “meaning” of the message goes deliberately bananas: “We’ve tipped the cap to the modern day grovers and gone all out on the logo-heavy, non-sensical slogan vibe, added a few flashes of color and voila: a long sleeve set to lift even the most pessimistic of outlooks.”

To be complete, additional fonts visible in the images are Cal Fraktur Modern, Windsor, and Eurostile.

For W Magazine’s “The Music Issue”, Jose Berrio created “album covers inspired by the music of four different hit shows: Atlanta, Yellow Jackets, Bridgerton and Euphoria.” The Atlanta title is set in Dida, with caps from Platform for “Soundtrack”. The “Parental Advisory” sticker uses Garage Gothic. Yellow Jackets is an homage to Prodigy’s Fat On The Land album cover, complete with outlined Keedy Sans. The “Warning” sticker on the Euphoria cover combines Druk with Noto Sans, and the font used for Bridgerton is Ayer, supported by what looks like Helvetica.

Testùn Bar is a Neo-Italo Osteria serving experimental Italian dishes in Mt Lawley, Western Australia.

For the brand identity of Testùn, the design studio Gesture Systems referenced 1990s Italia football and the irreverence of ’90s Italy to deliver an eclectic identity to match to energy of the staff and venue experience.

Gesture Systems used a modified version of Monopol Kompakt by Nguyen Gobber, Monaako by Altiplano, and Louize Display by 205TF.

El Origen de la Noche / The Origin of Night is an immersive sound installation by 4Direcciones Audiovisual (directed by Diana Rico and Richard Decaillet) working in collaboration with a group of traditional authorities from indigenous communities of the north-west Amazon, as well as anthropologists, musicians and linguists.

To design the identity of the exhibition, Mia Paltrow-Murray, graphic designer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, used the typefaces Exposure by Federico Parra-Barrios and distributed by 205TF, Serial B Blur by Mario Julián Gutierrez (Dum Dum Studio) and Neureal by Laura Csocsán (ECAL Typefaces).

Terraforma is a festival that takes place in the woods of Villa Arconati just outside Milan and involves artists who experiment new ways to reduce the distance between art and life.

Music and its listening take man back to his natural frequencies where sense of rhythm is once again bound with the environment. Terraforma is organized according to sustainable practices, integrating aspects from production to consumption of resources.

To design the identity of the 2023 edition, the Italian studio Threes Productions used the typeface Exposure by Federico Parra Barrios (205TF), in over- and underexposed styles. The visuals were shot by Columbian photographer Jim C. Nedd.

Glauque-Land: 25 ans d’Urbex en France looks back at the derelict sites Timothy Hannem has visited over the past 25 years. He wonders what life was like for the people who lived here. He imagined diary pages as the people who lived there might have written them.

This 272-page book is published by Albin Michel and measures 190×240 mm. A preface was written by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre.

Atelier Choque Le Goff used the typefaces Exposure by Federico Parra Barrios (205TF) and Serial C by Mario Julián Gutierrez (Dum Dum Studio).

20th Birthday Party concert poster

Monorail Music is a Glasgow based record shop focused on independent music. They work in close collaboration with graphic designer Musheto Fernandez for their visual communication.

They described themselves as follow:

Monorail Music opened in December 2002 after a sometimes epic three year long journey in search of a location and a way to make it all work. Glasgow then was a vibrant music city with something important missing, a great record shop, which we optimistically felt that we could provide. Operating from modest premises in a former Mexican restaurant, we’ve tried our best to provide the kind of record shop that we would like to visit on our travels. […]

Our first priority was obviously our shop, the 3D space, and making that work, but for a while it’s felt that we’ve got that down and that we’re ready to turn our attention to our website. At the moment it’s going to be impossible for us to represent online everything we’ve got going on in the shop. So we’re going to prioritise some of the new releases and reissues that we love, the music that we’re most closely connected with (groups, labels, projects) and other key Monorail items. In other words, independent, focused and friendly, like we’ve always tried to be.

Booklets made for Lafayette Anticipations:

During the exhibition Tumultes à Higienópolis by artist Katinka Bock, four editorial workshops were organised at Lafayette Anticipations, curated by Clara Schulmann and Thomas Boutoux, around the transformation of the city and the following themes: orality, observation, ecology and physicality, governmentality.

Each workshop resulted in the printing of a “journal” produced and printed on site within twenty-four hours of the workshop. The book, composed of these four issues, is completed with original engravings made from images by several artists invited by Katinka Bock. The sheets, in different formats, are based on the formats of international newspapers in reference to the initial activity of the Anzeiger-Hochhaus in Hanover. This emblematic publishing house saw the birth of such important periodicals as Der Stern and Der Spiegel in its basement.

Visual identity and website for FLOR, a youth movement that promotes nature and biodiversity. The objective? To build a platform for Danmarks Naturfredningsforening (Danish Society for Nature Conservation) that supports local initiatives and youth communities fighting the biodiversity crisis in the middle of which we find ourselves.

From planting trees and scattering seeds, to spearheading national campaigns, FLOR connects youth with the environment, ultimately paving the way towards a flourishing and biodiverse future.

The visual identity of La Filmoteca was designed by Democràcia, using Exposure by Federico Parra Barrios and Neue Montreal by Mathieu Desjardins.

Flexible Identity for the Valencian Film Archive of the Valencian Institute of Culture (Valencian Government).
Reviving pop, punk, and counterculture. Advocating for socializing and sharing cinema.
In the style of a Fanzine and as a form of revival, the Filmoteca's identity has been created with the assistance of the Exposure® typography by Federico Parra Barrios and edited by 205TF.
Based on the play of light, the brand is presented with a variable identity.
Inspired by self-publishing, for editorial use and publications, the brand employs a simple structure. The treatment of images complements the content, adding identity to the refined aesthetic. The use of leftover printer papers in random colors adds originality and spontaneity.

Located in Valencia, the Filmoteca is both a library and a cinema. It screens art house, classic, experimental and original films. This cinema bases its program on already released films. These are usually included in seasons that correspond to an actor, a director, a theme, a cinematic tendency or a different school. These can be either foreign or Spanish productions. It's worth noting that it is one of the few cinemas that screen short films. It is, at the same time, one of the most active cinemas during the annual Muestra de Cine del Mediterranni (Mediterranean Film Festival).

Identity designed by Otis Verhoeve for AfterClub, an independent publishing house based in Brussels, Belgium, founded by Koen Galle in 2021. AfterClub focusses on “unearthing stories about electronic music, club culture and record collecting.”

Cover designed by Bráulio Amado for Tilt, the second album by Australian dance/pop group Confidence Man. The typography pairs the yet unreleased Écriture by Benoît Bodhuin with Compacta Bold [and Druk Wide, see comments].

SIngle cover for “Angry girl”

Graphic designer Jeanne Triboul took care of the colourful visual identity of Césure, a place in Paris dedicated to the transmission of knowledge and skills. For this purpose, she also designed the logotype [using Fat Albert, see comments] and a set of monoline black and white illustrations. The whole identity has been conceived using the Pachinko font family (designed by Émilie Rigaud), from the posters on site to the signage, from the website to the social media communication.

Césure is a 25,000 m² workspace that has hosted more than 190 structures and 2,000 students since the summer of 2022. It has become a testing ground to invent new ways of learning from each other. Césure has opened its doors to the public in the spring of 2023 around a cultural and festive program, with a cafeteria, a 1000 m² Grand Plateau, an amphitheater, an interior courtyard and many other spaces to discover.

Heritage of Lithuanian Agrarian Folklore is a personal poster project set to remind the significance of the historically highly regarded tradition of rural gardening in Lithuanian folk culture.

13 designers, whose styles could not be more different and some of whom did not even know each other, have come together in this special project to create a calendar together. The result is not only a monthly calendar, but also a network between artists and designers, which will hopefully continue to grow.

The entire profit will be donated to the initiative Seebrücke, a political movement that supports a social migration policy, freedom of movement, and sea rescue.

The Community Service Calendar 2023 was printed in violet with a Risograph, in an edition of 250 copies. It measures approximately a DIN A4 format (open).

The Dreams store in the Atwater Village of Los Angeles was designed by creative entrepreneur Monica Navarro and spatial designer Adi Goodrick of Sing-Sing. While the branding was done by Studio Elana Schlenker and Élise Rigollet, the work shown here was created by Riley Pratt.

In their social media account they make frequent and interesting use of the Swear family by OH no Type Co., paired with some classics such as Snell Roundhand and Vivaldi.

A beautiful bunch of typefaces has been assembled around the new visual identity of Los Angeles-based J.Pera. ABC Whyte by Dinamo Typefaces is paired with Lothian Sans by Boulevard LAB for running text, while G2 Ciao by Gruppo Due defines a unique visual aura next to other unconventional (custom-drawn) headline styles. From the studio website:

J.Pera is a small-batch hand-made fragrance studio based in Los Angeles. It was founded in 2020 by artist and lead scent-maker, Jill Zachman. Joining Jill is the creative director and co-scent maker Carlos Avila; together, they form a partnership that develops intriguing narratives that serve as the foundation for innovative scent products with bold designs for intrepid people of all backgrounds.
