Series of posters for Hotline, a succession of three events organized by Arte Faact and Combo Bongos at a local club in Nantes called Macadam. The identity had to be inspired by the retro flyers of sex chat line advertising, using a real phone number to give the practical informations for the event.

I used a mix of script fonts from different eras, as it was a good way to tell the story of a phone number quickly written on the napkin of a bar or a restaurant. The generously curved lines of West Cooper Nouveau Swash also provide a feeling of seduction and give coherence to the identity.

River Raid is a 1982 shoot ’em up video game developed and published by Activision for the Atari 2600, designed by Carol Shaw. […] River Raid was the top-selling Activision game of 1983 and the second best-selling game for the Atari 2600 in 1983, only being beaten by Ms. Pac-Man. Shaw responded to the sales stating “I knew it was a good game, but I didn’t expect to hit number one. Of course I was happy when it did!” The Atari version sold almost one million copy in total by 1984, making it one of the best-selling video game at that point.

The headline typeface in this ad from a 1984 issue of the British Crash magazine is Conference. The bold spurless sans with the characteristic pointed e was designed by Martin Wait and released by Letraset in 1978. Despite being available in digital form, it hasn’t come up on Fonts In Use before.

I love this overprinted Bungee in Rumana Sayed’s exhibition, Don’t Be Denied.

This exhibition shows the work that Sayed produced during her residency at Out of the Blueprint in early 2017, much of it addressing the role of the word “nasty” in contemporary culture.

Bungee is used in the exhibition poster as well as in the exhibition itself, and it makes me happy to see it with the bold colors and unusual textures produced by the risograph machine (video here).
