This second issue of Mushroom People magazine, published by Broccoli, features “astromycologists, academics, architects, pharmacists, foragers, fashion designers, home cooks, shopkeepers, composers, and poets all inspired by the many radical ways of being fungi embody.”

The 2023–24 edition of the RUFA Annual Report, conceived as a collective performance, goes beyond documenting the year’s activities to become a shared design act focused on intention, process, and collaboration.

Inspired by Vilém Flusser’s idea that “everything depends on intention (design)”, the report was created through a 48-hour creative marathon involving 50 selected students alongside designers, visual artists, photographers, copywriters, and faculty members. Working together in an open laboratory, the teams produced content, images, data, and narratives that shaped the final publication.

The volume unfolds through ten keywords defining the Academy’s identity, a photographic selection of undergraduate and postgraduate theses, and an overview of the year’s activities, including events, workshops, talks, and international projects. Data Humanism–inspired infographics, based on interviews and questionnaires with students and faculty, complete the narrative.

A die-cut dust jacket revealing the names of the participants and a concluding photographic report underscore the collective nature of the project. The annual report thus stands as both a document and a method, reflecting the Academy’s growth through shared experience, research, and collaboration.

The Bodies We Call Home is a student project created at ArtCenter College of Design as part of the Type 4 class taught by Stephen Serrato. This publication is presented as a hypothetical art catalog, imagined as a curated collection of works exploring queer intimacy, resistance, and care.

The catalog’s typography—featuring Playground, Alegreya Sans, Editorial New, and Eiko—balances playfulness, warmth, and editorial refinement. Together, these typefaces move between softness and structure, echoing the emotional vulnerability and resilience at the core of the work.

Curatorial Statement:

Queerness has long been under attack—from historical criminalization to the government’s neglect during the AIDS crisis, where thousands of lives were lost in silence. Yet in the face of devastation, queer communities turned to intimacy as survival. Acts like the AIDS Quilt became declarations of love, grief, and resistance, proving that queer lives mattered. Today, anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and societal pressures echo those painful histories, politicizing queer bodies and threatening the right to exist freely. But intimacy remains a radical force—woven into activism, art, and quiet care shared between chosen families.

Queer intimacy exists in the quiet moments of touch, in the unspoken understanding between lovers, and in the collective strength of chosen families. It is spiritual, physical, and emotional—a force that holds, heals, and empowers. Love, in all its forms, is an undeniable human right, yet, it remains under threat. The ability to love and be loved should never be taken away, for it is as essential as the air we breathe.

“Ukraine is like a prison you can’t get out of, and Kyiv is my cell. Only skateboarding allows me to escape.” This sentence, uttered in the summer of 2023 by twenty-five-year-old skateboarder Aleksandr Burchak, sums up the stagnation in which Ukrainian youth finds itself. Photographed with a silver camera from the 1990s (XPan), this work by Robin Tutenges reveals the dead time of a war that shattered Europe in the winter of 2022. It’s a step sideways, abandoning the litany of breaking news to show how the conflict reconfigures everyday life, right down to its most trivial aspects. Here, skateboarding is more than just an unusual way of talking about a brutally confiscated youth: the figures of these teenagers appear as an act of resistance and creativity in the face of the violence imposed by Russia. The panoramic format, similar to the dimensions of a skateboard, represents this reduced horizon, where the board is now the only opening: for the time of a few tricks, those who could be soldiers escape gravity. This photographic series was supported by the Centre national des arts plastiques ( Cnap), as part of the “Performance” national photographic commission.

This 100-copies self-published booklet, bound with two black staples, plays with the panoramic format, using multiple flaps and folds to accentuate the composition of the images. The title is set in Tempel Softland, the introduction in Minotaur Sans, and all other texts (captions, comments, imprint) in Yorick, using its Cyrillic characters. 32 pages and 36 fold-out flaps, 110×200 mm. Web portfolio designed to showcase the photographic work of Victor Zurbarán with a clean and minimalist aesthetic. The smooth and structured navigation allows for easy exploration of two main sections: personal projects and curated projects, offering an intuitive and direct experience.

The projects are displayed in two optimized grids: a horizontal scroll for curated projects, where each image can be zoomed in and credits are shown, and a compact grid for personal projects, allowing multiple images to be viewed at once and project information to be revealed based on user interest. The color palette, featuring shades of gray and yellow, adds warmth without losing clarity, aligning with the photographer’s visual identity.

ABC Diatype Light is used in all caps on the website as well as for the business cards.

The exhibition Le Théâtre des Objets, dedicated to the work of Daniel Spoerri, was presented at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) in Nice from October 2021 to March 2022. Curated by Rébecca François, this retrospective immersed visitors in Spoerri’s unique world, as the master of “snare-pictures” and a key figure of the Nouveau Réalisme movement. The exhibition catalog was published on the occasion of the artist’s 90th birthday.

A distinctive feature of the catalog lies in its reversible layout: one side presents Spoerri’s works on white paper, while the reverse side, printed on pink paper, features texts and archival documents, offering a dual reading experience.

The comprehensive catalog was designed by Atelier 25, a studio founded in June 2009, bringing together Capucine Merkenbrack and Chloé Tercé, both graduates of the École des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. The designers used the Surt typeface by Blaze Type, alongside Night Light Script by Wings Art Studio.

Edited by Rébecca François, the catalog includes texts by Hélène Guenin, Barbara Raderscheidt, Déborah Laks, and Laurence Bertrand-Dorléac. It offers an in-depth analysis of Spoerri's work across 176 pages in a generous 24×31 cm format. It was co-published by MAMAC and SilvanaEditoriale.

Design/interior/creative studio Delajoie asked Odds Studio for a new visual identity, stationery, and merch. Odds Studio “had a blast exploring different logos and monograms for this project. It beautifully blends tradition with a playful touch.”

The magazine Ruhm & Ego founded by Hamburg-based designers Sophia Weider and Lucas Hesse proves that fame and ego are the last things you need to get things done. The publication champions the side projects and personal passions of artists from various creative fields, showing that enthusiasm, dedication, and a true love of one’s craft are crucial to any creative process.

Aiming to inspire other creatives, the magazine encourages readers to venture into new areas, regardless of their lack of industry experience. The first issue of Ruhm & Ego was published in 2020, followed by a second issue in 2022, which is shown here.

Ruhm & Ego has a strong typographical presence. The use of two different styles of fonts creates a playful and modernist design.

Kertész – Lartigue. Un pas de côté is the catalogue for the eponymous exhibition at Espace Richaud, Versailles in 2023. It is published by Bernard Chaveau Édition with the city of Versailles and the Médiathèque du patrimoine et de la photographie.

This book presents a selection of photographs by two pioneers of modern photography. Jacques Henri Lartigue and André Kertész each built their own work, following parallel or divergent paths, but systematically on the fringes of the major trends. Neither journalist, nor documentary filmmaker, nor actor of the event, each gave his photographs a timeless dimension that explains the ever-renewed interest of the spectators (Bernard Chaveau).

Kertész – Lartigue was designed by Clémence Michon and typeset in Persona (Abyme, 2022) and Louize Display (205TF, 2013).

The exhibition Things, authored by Laurence Bertrand Dorléac, proposes a new take on what was long seen as a minor genre, whose name – still life – is intriguing in itself.

Depictions of things, which date back to prehistoric times, are a wonderful window into history. Artists were the first to take things seriously by recognising their presence, imbuing them with life, glorifying their forms and meanings, their power and charm. They captured the ability of objects to fire our imagination – to make us believe, doubt, dream or act.

The exhibition revisits the still-life genre from the perspective of the ongoing dialogue between past and present artists. It sheds new light on our attachment to material things, while covering the history of art from prehistoric axes to Picasso, Chardin, Manet and the readymades of Marcel Duchamp.

The catalog was edited by Laurence Bertrand Dorléac and co-published by Lienart Éditions and Louvre éditions. It has 448 pages with 240 illustrations and measures 25.3×28.8×3.7 cm.

Abraham Palatnik: Experimentation/Enchantment is the largest monograph ever published on the artist. The publication aims to reaffirm the innovative nature of his practice, broadening and renewing the dialogue about Palatnik’s work, with an ample selection of archival images and works by the artist, as well as historical and unpublished texts written by Pérez-Oramas, curator Abigail Winograd, a specialist in abstract art in South America, art historian Kayra Cabañas and curator Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro. The publication is organized by critic and curator Luiz Camillo Osório.

The kinechromatic apparatus, an important series by the artist, was the starting point of the design by Bloco Gráfico. The transparency of the printed tracing paper was used as a graphic resource analogous to the work’s materiality. This feature is used on the dust jacket and openings of the book and texts, revealing part of the content below. On the cover, the analogy was reinforced by BallPill, rigidly geometric and idiosyncratic, like parts of mobiles, dialoguing with the geometric shadows of Palatnik’s apparatus and other works such as the kinetics objects. The sans used for captions and body copy appears to be Styrene B (see comments).

On his debut album, Childish Mind, guitarist and electronic musician Jonathan Bockelmann presents a series of light, serene acoustic guitar vignettes. The Munich-born musician has studied classical guitar for about two decades, perfecting his technique and gaining mastery of the instrument alongside work with his electronic duo GLASKIN. With GLASKIN, which features Jonathan and his brother Ferdi, he has explored his compositional vision, weaving genres like IDM, ambient, jungle, and techno together. Childish Mind sees him explore a new compositional path by crafting delicately interwoven melodies for the acoustic guitar. From the gentle webs and patterns Jonathan creates, there’s a sense of meditativeness throughout the album—his music radiates out, filling moments with a sense of ease and calmness.

Silhouette is a new independent French fashion magazine which focuses on luxury, haute couture, craftsmanship, jewelry, perfume and illustration. The magazine, with a logo based on Canopée by VJ-Type, is divided into twelve parts, each with a different opening typeface and color, with three different paper textures for a total of approximately 300 pages.

The first issue focuses on Japan and features a conversation with Japanese creator Mame Kurogouchi, a focus on the late Kenzo Takada work, the art of kimonos, yakuzas... In addition to a 32-pages photoshoot in Japan by Takay and a studio photoshoot by Mario Simon Lafleur, there is an exclusive photo report in Guerlain and Chanel workshops.
