Holm is a boutique collection of just 14 townhomes nestled high above the tree canopies of the Bardon Valley. The identity, created for HG Developments, consists of the name, a refined logo, monogram and nature-inspired colour palette with an illustration style that captures the sophisticated idiosyncrasies of Bardon and the laidback feel of the lifestyle on offer. The monogram is made up of 14 flower petals, each petal representing one of the unique townhomes.

Leo Lionni uses nothing but Annonce / Aurora-Grotesk V (or Venus Extended) and the words “NEW YORK” to represent the city’s skyscrapers and sparkling lights.

Cover design (and poster design) for the first issue in 2020 of the Japanese design magazine ブレーン / Brain. We took advantage of this space to transgress a little bit from the norm of what constitutes a cover illustration and thus made an arbitrary, non-exhaustive selection of beautiful books. This work also echoes our habit of making lists/classifications for everything, like movies, artists, restaurants, etc.

The typefaces use for the contribution are Lausanne 600 and Mono, both designed by Nizar Kazan. The Japanese fonts used for the magazine header are unidentified [edit: They have been identified by Akira, see comments].

Poster for Kenneth Branagh’s 1996 film adaptation of William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, featuring Branagh himself, alongside Julie Christie, Billy Crystal, Gérard Depardieu, Charlton Heston, Derek Jacobi, Jack Lemmon, Rufus Sewell, Robin Williams, and Kate Winslet.

It was designed by Tony Stella for a pitch, but eventually remained unused. His painting of Yorick’s skull is complemented by all-caps typography, using two typefaces released by ITC in the mid 1990s: Othmar Motter’s ITC Motter Corpus (1994) and Phill Grimshaw’s ITC Obelisk (1996).

Poster for a course about psychoanalysis, literature, and philosophy, offered by Inventio, who describe themselves as:

an initiative of young researchers in philosophy at UFMG that aims to bring the theory of society closer, taking it from the closed circle of the University, opening it to anyone in a thought-provoking, up-to-date and, above all, meaningful way.

Queen Alix is a real estate project located at the intersection of Alexandra Street and Alexandra Avenue in Montréal, Canada.

Inspired by the history of the neighborhood and its artistic effervescence of recent years, the project is a tribute to the past, present and future. The guideline of the visual identity is based on the aspect of "well-kept secret", "hidden place" and "select club". Refined, modern and high-end were key words to define the overall aesthetics of the project. The Scandinavian inspiration is present, both architecturally and graphically to draw a parallel with the essence of the project.

The typography mix is very important in this project. Dala Moa is more elegant with a stencil style, making a direct link with the universe of the project. GT America Expanded brings a more underground and trendy aspect to the project.

Wild Grace is a skincare products line inspired by Ayurveda – a general wellness medicine system with roots in the Indian subcontinent, that focuses on the mind, body and spirit balance.

The visual identity finds its roots in ancient and mystical practices – a balanced typographic play on sophisticated imperfection, modern and gestural properties, unusual and organic rhythm, and an old world personality. The minimal approach to the packaging line reflects the founders’ vision – to develop a refined, almost exclusive eco-luxe product that merges method, tradition and precision with humanity and ritual.

The typeface choices revolved around this vision. Mabry, the modern grotesque with gestural properties illustrates method and precision, Schnyder’s organic features, almost lettering-like, illustrate humanity, and Nicolas Cochin brings in the old world ritual ingredient.

Linda Huang’s repackaging for The War of the Worlds (as well as The Invisible Man) is so fresh, yet it feels nostalgic. The use of just black and white, and the retro font, keeps the design strong and bold. —Emily Mahon

The font in question is Persiflage, one of the 52 typefaces released in 2016 by The Pyte Foundry. In his review for Typographica, Frank Grießhammer describes it as a “very heavy marshmallow sans” and says he enjoys “the play of rounded versus straight corners.” I wonder what kind of “retro” Mahon had in mind. Persiflage reminds me of 1970s faces like Alpha or Too Much (the latter especially because of the thin middle bar in E). Chances are that type designer Ellmer Stefan referenced sources that are much older, though—maybe something like this variant of Caslon Rounded from c. 1841 which also mixes rounded and straight corners. His TPF Henry series is a more direct interpretation of Caslon’s early rounded sans serif.

ILIT (illustratore italiano) is the magazine of illustration and Italian illustrators. Published quarterly, it is designed by Filippo La Duca with art direction by MOM Studio. Bonjour Monde, group for the search of alternative processes in visual creation, was invited in December 2017 to give a talk at ESIPE, an engineering school in Paris (France). The purpose was to open the students’ eyes to the potential of accidents and the acceptance of control loss as vector of creativity.

This poster Bonjour Monde designed for their intervention carries several of the concepts they generally explore through workshops. The rasterized pictures display strange textures, born from digital glitches and printing errors. The typographic treatment — using Grandmaster in both Black and Thin weights and with a fair amount of tracking — aims at bringing the viewer out of its confort zone. It resonates with the snaggy feeling of the images and forces an involvement, a conscious and active reading process.

The main visual element — the French word ‘BONJOUR’ — embodies the idea of error in a more obvious manner. Distorted through Bonjour Monde's DataFace tool, it reveals the type's materiality with unexpected letterforms. The rest of the text is set in a monospace type named Cispeo, and an attentive eye can even spot some Syne Italic, a family created by Bonjour Monde for the French art center Synesthésie and used here a few months before its open-source release in June 2018.

Poster and website for Oh, Freedom, an art exhibition with works by Theo White at the Soft Opening gallery in London, UK. Design by Loose Joints. The exhibition logo is made with Blitz, a low contrast script typeface available from Out Of The Dark. The small text on the poster (and in the press release) is set in Agipo.

The first exhibition from Theo White sees the art director confront and reclaim black stereotypes found in early cartoons. Expanding his already collaborative practice, White works with photographer Giovanni Corabi to present seven costumed characters shot at Me'Lange Saloon in Peckham.

Apoc in use on a poster announcing 5 days of photography workshops/seminars at VUI Studio in Hà Nội, Vietnam. Vui Studio is a working space that hosts workshops and events for local and foreign artists. The sans serif typeface, designed by Ray Dao, is under development and as yet untitled.

As part of his second season at the helm of Quat'Sous, director Olivier Kemeid wanted to deepen our connection with the social body: "But who has the power in the City, and what power are we talking about?"

Power. The word can make one tremble: one immediately feels the sprawling arms of the state, this cold monster, which inevitably influences our lives; we can also see the tentacles – to stay in the octopus – of the one who seeks to dominate, even master the body of others...

But let's not forget that the word "power" is also a verb, and that it calls for freedom, or at least for widening the horizon: power, it is to be able, to hold the faculty, to express a possibility, to have the permission, to foresee a possibility. It is to define a desire: ah, if the theater could change the world!

Traulha used by Atelier Tout va bien for the fifth edition of Festival MV in Dijon, France. Typographic borders and rules are used extensively on the flyer and, as image, on the festival poster.

Website. Instead of building a website, online visitors can scroll down a long .svg picture with the program, based on the flyer.

Introducing a new visual Identity, 18th Street Arts Center is one of the top 20 artist residency programs in the United States, and the largest in Southern California. The logo mark is inspired by the shape of the architecture and the idea of residency. This was a school project at ArtCenter College of Design.

The visual identity of ambient pop band Cigarettes After Sex is composed of very few elements: carefully selected black and white photographs, and reversed ITC Mendoza in tightly spaced caps. This minimalist formula is applied consistently for all cover art and extends to merchandise products. The artwork for the self-titled debut album is even more reduced and does without a picture.
