With Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space we see British artist Spiritualized ascend into space rock royalty. The album takes the band’s previous cues of shoegaze and jazz, here coming together in a catalyst of pure noise and emotion.

Equally iconic as the music is Mark Farrow's album artwork. Designed in his trademark minimal style, it relies solely on Neue Helvetica and references the all too familiar packaging of prescription medicine, echoing the themes of both the album and the era. Farrow even went so far as to create a version in an enlarged medicine box, featuring an oversize blister pack containing the disc and a lengthy leaflet with dosage instructions.

Since its initial release, several special editions have been produced. Among the most noteworthy of those is one from 2009, featuring a reversed artwork and every song in its own individual, blister packed 3-inch CD.

2009 Special Edition

The motto of the French publishing house Éditions Larousse is: Je sème à tout vent – “I sow to all winds”. It is ascribed to architect and designer Émile Reiber (1826–1893). The first logo from 1876 features this motto together with a dandelion. Later versions of the Larousse logo – including the current one – depict a woman blowing flower seeds, known as the semeuse (“the sower”). Excoffon dispenses with the semeuse and goes back to the roots by reducing the logo to the dandelion – indicated as stylized white seeds. The background consists of rainbow-colored stripes, since this version of the Petit Larousse illustré comes in color.

Illustrious American designer David Carson has done two versions of his design, an ode to the "bland Blue Plate Special of typography." C-prints, 16 1/2" x 23 1/2" on archival paper. Version 2, limited edition of 50 numbered prints.

Norm designed their print as an homage to Helvetica designer Max Miedinger. A2 size (16 1/2" x 23 1/2"). Hand letterpress printed, 100 numbered copies.

The key has been to find and use symbols that are easy for the customers to understand at first glance, for example the sizes (1-4) for the batteries, the drops for the wet wipes and the line space for the note books.

So far we have designed 50-60 different kinds of packaging for items like glue stick, copy paper and batteries. In all the solutions we have tried to take away unnecessary details and adding an element of fun, but above all creating a good, functional design.

Created by Massimo Vignelli for Charles Stendig in 1966, the Stendig Calendar is the only calendar hanging in New York’s MoMA. Loved by designers, architects and fans of minimalism the world over, it is constructed from tear-off sheets of 160 gsm paper, and printed in the iconic typeface Helvetica. The months randomly alternate black and white and the top binding strip has three black eyelets for easy level hanging.
