Berlin-based sleepwear brand Lourie celebrates the rediscovery of slowness in every sense. Lourie is the opposite of fast fashion: pyjamas in a small edition, timeless in the look, produced with care and made to be worn for a long time. Lourie pyjamas are the uniform of the late sleepers, daydreamer and self-carer.

Moret helps telling this story in a very good way. It’s striking, modern, has a sense of humour and a retro feeling. Graphik offers a clean contrast.

Haas Inserat-Grotesk / Neue Aurora VIII for the cover of Radio Ethiopia, the second studio album by the Patti Smith Group. It released in October 1976 by Arista Records. The album design is credited to Nancy Greenberg and Patti Smith. Cover photography by Judy Linn. The back cover features a group photo by Lynn Goldsmith and text in Bodoni. At the top, there is a line of characters from the Ethiopic script also known as Geʽez, as used for the Amharic and Tigrinya languages, among others. ሬዲዮ፡ኢትዮጵያ፧ translates to “Radio Ethiopia?”. It’s not clear if this is type or lettering.

“Rebelle” is a project which was born from the Experimental Type class at ArtCenter College of Design. “Rebelle” can be understood as exploring and practicing typography through fashion and clothing. From a more macro standpoint in the fashion industry, “Rebelle” is a graphic designer’s response to the wide-spread notion of breaking the boundary between high fashion and streetwear. It is essentially luxury streetwear created by a generation Y designer, revealing the will to be part of other existing luxury streetwear brand explorers.

The project contains clothing designs, fashion photography, a promotional video, stationery, the brand catalogue with a line-sheet, a brand manual, a packaging design set, and collateral.

The core design philosophy of Rebelle is using typography as the primary approach to deliver direct and indirect communication. One major design approach is to use words, sentences, and paragraphs along with powerful imagery to directly present Rebelle’s audience with seasonal themes. The logo is based on SangBleu Empire Black. Using the thick-and-thin characteristic from SangBleu Empire to bring the qualities of Rebelle, as a Millennial's rebellious fashion brand. The modification on few letters on the logotype is mimicking the silhouettes of urban cities as well. For all other typography, a selection of two other type collections from Swiss Typefaces is used: NewParis from the NewParis collection, and Suisse Int’l, Suisse Int’l Condensed and Suisse Works from the Suisse collection. The combination of the serif and san-serif intents to reveal a sense of duality, being classic and contemporary.

Using imagery is the secondary approach for Rebelle to communicate with its audience. For Rebelle’s first season (“Rebelle Collection” and “Ré•volution” Collection), it is applying paintings and visual elements from the Romanticism period to imply that rebellions have occurred throughout human history. Each period has its own type of rebellion.

By placing the word “Re•volution” up-side down shows a parallel with many Renaissance paintings used, indicating information could only be seen by God.

Rebelle also inspires, presenting its own attitude and raising specific social topics through indirect communication like using subtexts conveyed by paralanguage. This can be largely found in Rebelle’s “Ré•volution” campaign posters, such as “This Is Not a Rebellion” and “This Is Not an Execution”.

Magazine designed as a promotional give-away for HAZE, a hairdressing bar in Kiev, Ukraine. HAZE is a combined bar and hairdresser salon. It’s also a cultural center and a place for concerts, workshops, brunches and exhibitions. Haze was created by people with love and passion for what they do, determined to run a place where beauty meets with culture. The magazine was conceived in English, to cater to HAZE’s international client base. There are plans to add a version in Ukrainian later.

The design of the publication had to go well with the HAZE identity. For titles I used Glober, used by HAZE in their logo, paired with open source font Trirong. See more images on aleksandrabraska.com.

Velo Fashion Magazin is published once a year around the “carless Sunday” and points out the diverse bicycle culture and the wide range of fair fashion stores in the capital of Switzerland, Bern.

Our initial thought was really how can we shift conventional symbols? Basic things like for example, can we make left become right or yes become no? Our aim is to create confusion and try to make people question and play with their habits, their conventional perceptions and personal references, if only for the fun of it. — Choque Le Goff

To celebrate the launch of their capsule collection with The Cords Co, Parisian studio Choque Le Goff teamed up with photographer Cédric Viollet to create some promotional lookbook images. The typeface they used is Signal Compressed by Emmanuel Besse.

BTL Brands, the independent branding agency for startups, has repositioned Porto-based luxury cashmere company, Milk Cashmere, with a new brand identity as it eyes up the mother and baby market.

BTL Brands built the brand strategy, and created the brand name, logo and personality for the new luxury cashmere brand. The name Milk, previously ‘Melanie Cashmere’, was created to reflect the way rolls of soft cashmere fabric take on a ‘milky’ appearance and nod to the translation of the founder’s surname, ‘Milk Coast’. The brand message, ‘a small touch of kindness’, shines a light on the story of cashmere wool from the farm in Mongolia to the factory in Milan to the fashion store on Madison Ave. The new brand has been applied to website, packaging, social and marketing.

The new brand will launch in spring 2018.

New hoodie design for Sultry Clothing, by Thomas Salmin. The identity was built around the concept of the Garden of Eden. In this collection, Salmin brings forward a world of sensuality in the shape of hoodie clothing.

The fonts in use are Memoriam and Apoc.

Visual identity for Flygrl, Melissa’s latest collection. Melissa is an iconic global footwear brand with origins tracing back to São Paolo, Brazil. Melissa has an international presence in more than 80 countries and more than 200 stores just in Brazil. We created a design system that is being translated into all kinds of applications, from Interior Design and website to bags and lollipops. Flygrl instantly became a hit in Brazil and it was the first time that I got my work drawn by someone at the beach.

As one of the world’s foremost athletic events, the London Marathon attracts both runners and fans from across the world. To celebrate this year’s race, we collaborated with Nike Running to design a marathon-themed apparel collection that was stocked in the city’s Niketown store.

Our long history of involvement with running and crew culture – developing, for instance, the visual identity for Run Dem Crew – allowed us to tap into the vibrant and creative culture that has developed around the scene.

The designs play on the close relationship that exists between London’s runners and the city itself, using wordplay and making reference to specific locales in order to create unique and engaging RUN LDN graphics.

Magazine design for Pan & The Dream Magazine. Issue 1: The Emperor’s New Clothes concerns itself with the naked form.

The issue weds smart text and arresting imagery in a coming together of new and archival work from esteemed artists and young creatives alike. A statement defying the current wave of commercial puritanism and the mishandling of censorship in social media.

This 1970 magazine ad for the lingerie company, Gossard, features the typeface Futura.

Futura Bold is used for the headline, and Futura Light is used for the smaller copy.

For the portfolio website of Berlin based artist management Shotview, agency YES employ a bold, compemporary aesthetic of loud and full-bleed images. While I’m sure the idea is to showcase the photography more than anything, what stands out to me is the use of all-caps Weiß-Antiqua. Here, it feels more like a Germanic companion to Canela rather than a relic of the 1920s.

This is a fairly early use of Futura in the US where it wasn’t pervasive until it was copied in the 1940s by domestic foundries besides Intertype. Futura and Bodoni, however, was a common combination throughout the 1930s–50s. Note the ellipsis (on both pages) to separate thoughts without breaking lines so everything can stay in a tidy, justified text block.

The Take Festival for Independent Fashion and Arts is located in Vienna and aims at bringing together emerging talents in the fields of fashion, fine arts, photography, design and moving images. The festival takes place April 19–23, 2016.
