OK RM reviewed and redesigned the signage and wayfinding for one of the most important buildings in British architectural history. Wayfinding information is set in Pitch and Founders Grotesk Text. Longer texts are set in Farnham, which was already in use as a house style typeface before the redesign. OK RM:

We were commissioned at the start of a two year master plan to review a new environmental graphics and way-finding scheme. The first step was to remove the myriad of municipal design languages that have crept in to the building in recent years.

Inspired by the idea that geometry is a source of beauty (an idea inherent in the architectural premise of the house) we created hierarchies of content that all shared the same width of line – unifying content of various scales and styles.

The signs are finished with gold-plated footings that complement the electric blue typography that was matched to the original ‘Queen’s House blue’ found on the original Tulip Stairs at the heart of the building.

Identity for ›Play‹Restart, a design event that aims to create dialogue between design professionals by giving the word precedence over the image.

It’s not my kind of music at all, but I can definitely appreciate some large Albertus caps, eerily illuminated at night.

Having sold three million albums, Unheilig apparently is Germany’s most successful rock band of the past decade. The band’s typographic appearance has been unusually and admirably consistent. Unheilig has relied on Albertus ever since the first single in 2000. Gipfelstürmer is their farewell release.

Font makers: Note the lowered umlaut dots for ‘Ü’ in the billboard ad, which are not needed on the album cover itself. There is a real-world need for such compact umlauts. Consider providing them as alternates, so that graphic designers don’t have to make them themselves.

Alverata Irregular is shown here in use at Clay! A century of ceramics at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. The exhibition at Gemeentemuseum focuses on the history of the ceramics department at this prestigious Amsterdam art school. Alverata Irregular, designed by Gerard Unger, can be seen on the exhibition’s display walls as well as in the bilingual catalogue (Dutch and English), published by Impact Vastgoed BV and Waanders.

A new jacket (just back from press) for a wonderful book about Schubert’s Winterreise by the tenor (and polymath) Ian Bostridge. The footprints on the jacket are blind debossed.

A beautifully sophisticated design for the website of The Ruby Tree using Antwerp and Neuzeit S.

This material was created for an exhibition on renowned Canadian architect, Ron Thom—exploring his architecture within this context of his total aesthetic. The fold-out pamphlet contains a map and location info for a walking tour of Thom’s master plan of Trent University. Romain BP was selected to communicate stature and commemoration.

Brand identity for Great Eastern Energy, an energy service company, designed by Natasha Jen, (partner-in-charge and designer), with Belinda Chen, (designer) of Pentagram. The brand's wordmark and primary typography are set in ITC Lubalin Graph.

“Kinfolk is a slow lifestyle magazine published by Ouur that explores ways for readers to simplify their lives, cultivate community and spend more time with their friends and family”.* Stephen Coles identified the typeface for the title, “Optimus Priceps, a kind of messy Trajan by Manfred Klein” [See the detail below]. These roughened letters inspire thoughts of whittled branches or the uneveness of a handcraft. The body text is Adobe Caslon. The breathy use of whitespace and letterspacing recall a lot of contemporary Japanese design (often set in Garamond). The Kinfolk magazine, cookbook and website all have a slightly different palette of type, but maintain a similar feeling across mediums. The clarity and warmth of the type as it is used here compliments the associations the brand promotes, which all boil down to a clear set of values. This is a book not just for cooking, but a place to find lifestyle recipes.

Bucharest based printing and design atelier Fabrik is specialized on different printing techniques including offset, digital print, and letterpress. The single page website shows a great composition of their work combined with headings in Futura Passata and continuous text in Satyr.

Branding for Portland, Maine restaurant Central Provisions, housed in a mid-19th century industrial building. According to the branding agency, Might & Main, "[t]he aesthetic pays tribute to classic Portland in the heyday of the industrial 1800s, with a contemporary shine that ties everything together in the here and now."
