Second album from Dutch ska band, Doe Maar, released in 1981 by Killroy Records.

Packaging by Riffaud-Richard, a dry-cleaner’s in Angoulême, France, probably from the 1960s.

The text is hand-lettered, based on three different typefaces by iconic French type designer Roger Excoffon. The name is modeled after caps from Choc. “Teinture, nettoyage” (dyeing, cleaning) and the city’s name show the characteristic letterforms of Banco. Asterisks were used to separate words. The address features a manual interpretation of Mistral, with greater liberties taken for “faubourg l’Houmeau”.

A striking typographic cover for an album by jazz band leader Sammy Kaye (1910–1987), released in 1972 on Project 3 Total Sound. The swinging and swaying letters and words are from Calypso (Fonderie Olive, 1958) and Schmale Herold (Berthold, 1904).

Sammy Kaye, the famous creator of “Swing and Sway” presents these brand new recordings. This new album opens with the song “If You’ve Got the Time”. Sammy asked Johnny Mack who performed the original TV commercial [for Miller Beer] to do an encore on this album. Johnny obliged and now you’ll hear his memorable song as originally played and sung on this great album.

All the fonts your typography teacher has warned you about!

The house bag of Sunday Best Recordings is a smorgasbord of extreme display typefaces; from the ornamented 19th-century classics Romantiques No.2 aka Carnival and No.5 aka Bracelet, to Roger Excoffon’s ingenious Calypso from the 1950s and Michel Jarland’s dreamy Astral from the 1970s, to downright cheesy faces that look as if they are formed out of wood planks (Slapstick) or ties (Necktie). Each on its own is already quite flashy. Together they form a ridiculous cacotypography … that warms the cockles of the font IDer’s heart. To me this looks so colorful, it’s hard to admit that the design is actually in black and white. It’s reminiscent of ads by manufacturers of pre-digital display typefaces like this one by Mecanorma, where every word is competing for attention and yet the message is always the same. The generic sleeve was used for several releases in the mid-2000s. Boomclick’s Follow Love from 2003 might have been the earliest one. Ten years later, it was referenced again for Lazyboy’s Pica Disco. The designer is uncredited.

Originally founded as a leftfield club night in 1995 by Radio 1 DJ and Bestival co-creator Rob da Bank, Sunday Best the label emerged in 1997. Star Trek: The Next Generation ran from 1987 through 1994. The credits were rendered in Crillee for the entirety of its run.

The recurring fonts are Guillemet, a modernized gothic by Johan Mossé, and Kabel Black in all caps, with a stemless initial ‘E’. The notes accompanying the singles appear to use a condensed (custom?) variation of Fette Fraktur (cf. Schmalfette Fraktur) with some romanized glyphs [edit: It’s Luxus Gothic, see comment by Riley], paired with a yet unidentified sans serif.

True Stories is the seventh album released by Talking Heads in 1986; it was released at the same time as the David Byrne film of the same name, True Stories.

The album does not contain contain the actors' performances from the film. Instead, this is a Talking Heads studio album featuring recordings of songs from the film. While an original cast recording for this movie was never released, several of the film performances did appear on single releases of several songs from the album.

Later, lead singer Byrne released the album Sounds from True Stories containing incidental music from the soundtrack.
