Hoang Nguyen (IG) was involved in designing and implementing the 2019 edition of the annual “Next Generation” campaign of the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel in which the academy and its most recent graduates get promoted. Two of the applications that were designed by Hoang Nguyen are a flyer, of which the different words could be peeled off and used as stickers, and a bag that was distributed at various events of the FHNW Academy of Art and Design.

In this context, the first few characters of Generation Mono were drawn. Its design is ultrawide and lends itself to be set vertically, which was its main use for posters and other applications. Together with David Gobber (IG), the character set got expanded to cover the basic Latin alphabet, including all figures and some of the most essential interpunctuation. To support the “next generation(s)” of designers Generation Mono was recently released as a free font which can be used in both commercial and non-commercial projects.

The pianos have been tuned, the violins have been set, the trumpets have been polished. The new season of the Athens National Orchestra “At Heroic Rhythms” has just begun. Still, strong, bold and magnificent, a series of ‘Heroes’ embody the excellence of the artistic programme of the orchestra. The hero illustrations work in synergy with a juxtaposition of serif and sansserif typefaces – Grand Gothik and Sauvage Antique – wanting to mirror the ability of music of bringing together and in harmony differences, cultures and generations.

Sauvage Antique (Atypical) and PF Grand Gothik (Parachute) are used throughout.

Leeds based design studio Passport creates the identity and supporting print & digital materials for the Vagina Museum in London; “the world’s first bricks and mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas and the gynaecological anatomy.” From Passport’s website:

We [supplied] seven different typefaces with a variety of personalities, which could be mixed and matched to create different aesthetics as well as distinct tones of voice. We maintained brand consistency by always using black on coloured backgrounds.

Ouessant (Finis terrae) is a catalog designed by Cyril Makhoul about the residences that took place between 2013 and 2017. Ouessant is the most western island in the French territory. Offset printing, 224 pages, 2018.

Visual identity of Blue Note Festival’s 2017 edition, held in Paris and organised by Universal Music France. in Paris. On both flyer and poster, the lineup is set in Berlingske Serif. The poster uses Antique Olive for the main information, which is set in Public Notice JNL on the flyer.
