Hoang Nguyen (IG) was involved in designing and implementing the 2019 edition of the annual “Next Generation” campaign of the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel in which the academy and its most recent graduates get promoted. Two of the applications that were designed by Hoang Nguyen are a flyer, of which the different words could be peeled off and used as stickers, and a bag that was distributed at various events of the FHNW Academy of Art and Design.

In this context, the first few characters of Generation Mono were drawn. Its design is ultrawide and lends itself to be set vertically, which was its main use for posters and other applications. Together with David Gobber (IG), the character set got expanded to cover the basic Latin alphabet, including all figures and some of the most essential interpunctuation. To support the “next generation(s)” of designers Generation Mono was recently released as a free font which can be used in both commercial and non-commercial projects.

Record sleeve, cassette tape and art direction for Hip Dozer’s 4th compilation.

The design relies on the statement that hip-hop is a kind of modern archeology through the art of digging and sampling. The visual displays borders and ornaments from a Deberny & Peignot catalogue. The inside is inspired by some old archeology books from the 20th century, Each object portrays an artist/track.

Hip Dozer aspires to represent a scene often limited to the adjective lo-fi and its eclecticism, this fourth edition,brings together accomplished artists & promising beatmakers. A way of showing through 28 tracks that those producers have some groove left on their MPCs.

The NRV typeface is the result of Roxane Gataud’s workshop at ESAD• Valence. An introduction to type design by experimenting with shapes: no pencil allowed, only scissors and paper. My point was to create a font with massive serifs so I could write inside. I later developped it a bit more so it could make its way onto the final artworks.

Poster / flyer designed by Hoang Nguyen to advertise the two Master programmes of the Visual Communication Institute of the Basel School of Design. One being the Master of Arts in Visual Communication and Iconic Research and the other the International Master of Design UIC/HGK (MDes).

The display typeface shown prominently when the flyer is still folded up is called Kiosk. It was designed by David Gobber and is available from his website. The typeface used to set the running text is Unica77, the corporate typeface of the Basel School of Design designed by Team77, which is available from Lineto. All other letterforms visible in the design were created for this poster / flyer by Hoang Nguyen and are not part of any available typefaces.

Sterile Dogma is a printed translation of my Bachelor graduation thesis in the Graphic Design department at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (KABK). Full title: Sterile Dogma: Nocturnus and its effect on the Human Development Through The Visual Culture in the Age of Radical Elation.

Today we are living in the world where fear and doubt are being condemned to the ever-lasting flight down the void. Regarded as concepts of weakness and futility and opposed by the constantly enhancing and inflated concept of positive-thinking and “gratefulness”, fear and doubt became even more shameful to experience than they used to be throughout the history. This becomes a reason for us to start denouncing such crucial parts of our lives as non-important ones or as those that are reinforcing fears and insecurities in favour of artificial cover made of all that successful compensating and striving. I see such escapism as an eminently important issue that can have poor fallout for our civilisation’s present and thus - future.

Querétaro's City Museum and Rivera Gallery present Campamento Para Jóvenes Naturalistas, a collective exhibition that observes, lists, and taxonomizes the mediations to which the group of artists resorts to meet nature mediated by technology. Curatorship: Karla Kaplun and Wendy Cabrera Rubio

Mauricio Garza developed the Campamento Para Jóvenes Naturalistas identity and communication material, web and print using the entire Millionaire family (Script, Italic and Roman) throughout. In the exhibition guide, Millionaire is paired with a few words set in Roboto.

True Ames and The Surfer’s Journal released a limited edition of a set of three hand-foiled and colored surf fins (Greenough 4-A 9.75, Yater Apocalypse 9.5, and Skip Frye 7.5). Millionaire is used for the numerals. The names appear to be set in all-caps Myriad Light.

The Surfer’s Journal is a 132 pages reader-supported surf publication founded in 1992. “The Surfer's Journal is vivid, authoritative, and independent.” Founded in 1979, True Ames Fins has become the standard-bearer in hand-built surfboard fin craft and production over the last 40 years.

Caroline, Drift Train is a performance by Minjung Song on the 16th Dec 2018 at the Ilmin Museum of Art during PERFORM2018 in Seoul. The performance takes you to a station platform of a tiny village, telling the viewer about moving and drifting through the screen of a mobile phone. The designs for the performance include a fictional train ticket and packaging, a “lost cat” poster – and a thank you message for retrieving the cat. The ticket for the performance exists only as a 3D model. To witness the performance, you must have a cellular phone (with telephone number) and earphones. This performance is only for advance purchase. There are no on-site sales.

The typography combines Blaze Type’s Oroban with an unidentified narrow sans serif for the numbers in red and two typefaces that refer to the steam age: Engravers Gothic with its flat bottom U, and Engravers (note that the designer kept the poor spacing of OU that comes with Monotype’s version.
