Altered views captures Voluspa Jarpa’s extensive artistic work exhibited at the Chilean Pavilion of the 58th Venice Biennale. Edited by the artist and curator Agustín Pérez Rubio. Published by Ediciones Puro Chile:

The publication portrays the investigation of the Chilean artist Voluspa Jarpa around European decolonization between the 17th to the 20th centuries from a contemporary revision and viewpoint, referring to six historical cases about crucial subjects for debate, such as race, gender and power structures.

Designed by the leading editorial design studio VACA (Caracas, Venezuela) which is headed by award-winning designers Álvaro Sotillo and Gabriela Fontanillas.

Nearly all typography is set in Lira Sans and Adobe Jenson; Only the section sign (§) in the margins of the text blocks set in Lira Sans is set in neither of the two – instead it’s Neue Helvetica. According to the imprint, a style of the Math & Technical series is used, too, but is not shown in the images of this post.

Bilingual edition in Spanish and English.

Paris based studio Plus Mûrs designed the new visual identity of Ourros (Los Angeles) using Syndicat Grotesk by edition.studio. Ourros is a “creative studio and management company built upon cross-disciplinary collaboration”.

Catalogue / guide book for Cloudbusters: Intensity vs. Intention, the main exhibition at the 17th Tallinn Print Triennial, taking place from June 2nd till July 15th, 2018.

The book consists of several distinctive sections, seen through the spine and shown in the scans below. The title / display typeface is BC Brief by Matyáš Machat (Briefcase Type Foundry, 2017). The conceptual typeface design uses a maximum of two points per glyph. It is paired with Monotype Grotesque for text. A stylistic follower of Venus, this sans is distinguished by capitals that are bolder in weight than the lowercase. Both typefaces were also used in the exhibition design, posters, etc.

Principles of Wealth is personal non-profit project summarizing Naval Ravikant’s tweets and podcast about “how to get rich without being lucky.” It was made to explore my development and design skills, adding typography in the mix. I live-tweeted about the process.

For the website, I paired two typefaces. Headings are in the Black weight of MADE Canvas, which is simply a beautiful bold font. When animating the headers, it almost looks as if they “twirl” during the transition. For the body copy, I chose Abhaya Libre, as I find it a pleasant reading font and it paired nicely with Canvas. Another reason why I worked with these fonts is that Abhaya Libre is available under the Open Font License, and MADE Canvas is free for non-commercial use.
