Gelau is a Sardinian gelato brand that brings a sunny, artisanal and deeply local imagination to the frozen dessert world. Its range includes gelato sandwiches, sticks and tubs, creating a broad yet recognizable offer designed to highlight taste, quality and origin.

The project built a brand system capable of bringing identity, packaging and communication together under one idea: tastier than sweet. A simple yet distinctive promise that shifts the story of gelato from sweetness alone to the quality of taste, the richness of ingredients and the pleasure of the experience. The strategy treats Sardinian identity as a contemporary value, not a folkloric one: a recognizable origin, reinterpreted through a fresh, pop and immediate language. Communication follows the same direction, turning the product into a brand with personality: direct, ironic and sensory, able to speak with lightness without losing credibility.

The visual identity, developed by GB22, is born from the meeting of tradition and appetite appeal. Geometric patterns, inspired by Sardinian textile imagery, become a modular sign that runs across packaging and communication materials, creating continuity between product, territory and brand. The packaging system organizes flavors and formats through vibrant colors, clear codes and high-impact product imagery, putting texture, creaminess and ingredients at the center. Each pack follows a numbered nomenclature that creates a sense of seriality across the range, while the back panel gives every flavor its own story, rooted in the Sardinian territory and its ingredients. Production details further elevate the system: each pack features a gold-paste printed cartouche with embossing, adding a tactile and premium feel to the product information area. The Sardinian graphic pattern is enhanced with UV varnish, turning a cultural reference into a distinctive visual and material element.

Communication extends the same language in the typographic direction: Cocosignum by Zetafonts is used both for the logo and the bold headlines, creating a strong visual typographic rhythm and an ironic tone, building a voice that is consistent with the brand promise.

The result is a fresh, distinctive and flexible brand system, able to make Sardinian gelato feel contemporary, memorable and desirable.

The small print including ingredients and nutrition facts is set in Chillax.

Packaging and campaign visuals for Kinder Coffee Lab’s Lemonade Coffee Shandy release, designed by Switchboard in collaboration with Fable Roasters in Minnesota. The identity uses Allsorts across cans, social graphics and promotional materials, pairing bold condensed display typography with bright citrus-inspired color palettes and playful vertical composition. Allsorts was designed by Becca Dore and is available from BTYPE.

Nick Sakagami’s Sushi Master: An expert guide to sourcing, making, and enjoying sushi at home was first published in 2019. The 2023 edition, designed in-house at Quarto and published in their Chartwell Books imprint, features Epitaph by Frere-Jones Type for the title design. The secondary typefaces are Martin Majoor’s Scala Italic and Underware’s Auto.

Author Nick Sakagami is the only person outside of Japan to earn the designation osakana meister, or fish master. In this book he shares his vast knowledge of all things sushi, including sourcing, evaluating, and preparing fish, plus delicious recipes for sushi, soups, vegetable dishes, and more, that are perfect for the home cook.

Kwikish is an African pantry brand bringing the richness of West African flavour into modern kitchens. London based founders Ade and Zikora love a home-cooked traditional meal, but in their busy lives, these recipes often felt too time-consuming.

Inspired by the vibrant vernacular world of the corner shop, a universal feature in communities across the diaspora, Kwikish's visual identity is built around a warm colours and and friendly fonts, Kilimanjaro Sans and DM Sans.

Kwikish is a direct challenge to cultural erasure caused by displacement and automation, inviting people to find the goldmine of value that already exists in West-African heritage and culture.

Microdosify is a premier online source for high-quality microdosing gummies and capsules in Canada. Similar to a resilient plant emerging from a small seed, it has evolved from a place of personal adversity into a powerful catalyst for positive transformation. Their mission extends beyond merely offering microdosing products; they are spearheading a comprehensive mental health revolution, one dose at a time.

BROKLIN partnered with Microdosify to develop a colourful brand identity including the design of a new website that sets it apart in the market. The new visual system needed to reflect the company’s values and beliefs, as well as its mission to make use of the precious resources nature provides. It was crucial for the design to appear elegant and stylish, appealing to a discerning, adventurous, and health-conscious audience. We employed a variety of colours for different flavours, inspired by the name and organic ingredients. The logomark was redesigned with a thick, consistent stroke weight, resulting in a modern, clean, and balanced appearance.

Typography plays a key role in the project. Accompanying the logo is a new sans-serif wordmark set in PolySans Median Wide by Gradient, which matches the logomark’s stroke weights and serves as the primary typeface. For both Microdosify lifestyle and product photography, the team developed two distinct approaches to reflect the health-related aspects of positive transformation and the brand itself. A bright, clean background photography style is used to convey clarity, highlight details, and build trust. At the same time, the real-life approach helps create an emotional connection and shows how the product fits into a customer’s everyday life.

Elusive is a true passion project from the beginning. As global supply of a certain ubiquitous green liqueur saw a sharp drop in availability a few years ago (due to the production philosophy of the Carthusian monks who make it), the idea of not being able to serve some of the essential classic cocktails felt wrong in a proper cocktail bar. The solution for Echo Spirits was to make their own interpretation, painstakingly, by hand. What started as a practical solution for the bar led to a massive response and demand from guests and the community—this stuff is good enough to share.

The packaging aims to capture a sense of the same craft, and attention to detail, and finesse that went into the spirit within. We broke from the aesthetics that have defined the brand so far, and went all-in on lush illustration, calligraphic typography, and maximalism to evoke the same handmade feeling. Each of the (approximately) 40 ingredients is pictured and represented on the label, rejecting the mystery of “secret ingredients” in favor of strong visual storytelling.

“Elusive” is set in a very slightly modified Talu by Beasts of England, making use of its extensive alternate character sets. Supporting type is set in Tiller by Fort Foundry, relying on its flares to bring a more refined vibe, and its structural similarity to Interstate (used as Echo's primary brand type family) to connect back to other products.

Recipe developer, writer, and baker Teresa Finney’s Panadería is a cookbook zine focused on contemporary Mexican-American baked goods, both sweet and savory. The zine contains an introduction, five recipes, and a guide to kitchen supplies, all across just eight spreads. EB Garamond was a great choice for body copy, as it’s heavy working even at small sizes, while Grenette adds a bit of pillowy softness for subheads and numbering. Victorian was used for headlines as a nod to motifs seen in Mexican ornament (without being too on the nose), while Nouveau LX’s condensed forms were evocative and effective for the long title on a narrow cover page. The lowercase e and r of Victorian were customized to enhance readability and avoid distraction. The type-heavy layouts are supplemented by beautiful, 1970s inspired illustrations by Zoé Maghomès Peters.

The font Epoque Black was used on the cover and in the interior of this “Practical and Nutritious Recipes Guide” published by the nutrition cell of the Department of Health and Social Assistance of ALECE. In addition to being used on the cover with a stylized capital S, the font was used in the interior in the Bold weight for the titles. The text typeface is PT Sans.

Graphic design studio Claudia Eggimann created a self-initiated project to raise awareness and enhance joy in eating despite allergies, cross-reactions, intolerances and food issues. happybelly is a collection of self-created and tested recipes and a sharing of experiences – all vegan, gluten free & towards sattvic.

The branding is sweet, playful still graphical with a modern twist. It addresses affected kids and adults who can't contribute to “normal” food culture and have to stick to a strict diet.

The main focus lays on a website, designed and programmed in-house with Cargo. With bold titles, set in Syne, photographs made out of the blue, portraying homemade dishes and clean lines in a readable font. The design allows for some small surprises, like tilted, floating photographs and animated icons. The latter are from the IKONEN font that was designed during the Corona pandemic when the world was locked down.

There is also a social media channel in construction and physical advertising like flyers. As also more to come.

Greed in use for Delulu, the fourth perfume made by .Oddity Fragrance in Hong Kong. The packaging was designed in-house by .Oddity Studio. A scent for grown-ups who don’t want to be grown-up – playful, pink, and just the right amount of sour. Capped with old toys, collected from forgotten corners of Hong Kong.

Omnes is one of the brand typefaces for Oatsome. The German food startup offers smoothie bowls, crunchy toppings, nut spreads and other products for a healthy diet, all with 100% natural ingredients and no additives or added sugar.

Darden Studio’s selectively rounded sans is available in four widths: Narrow, Condensed, Semicondensed, and Standard. The Oatsome designers work with several of them, in various styles including the italic. Omnes Condensed and Narrow are being used for the product descriptions. These space-saving fonts also come in handy for placing all relevant consumer info like nutrition facts on the packaging designs.

Omnes is combined with Stick-A-Round by PintassilgoPrints. The unicase sans is used with some of its playful ligatures and nested letter pairs for the product names. The Oatsome logo features Shinntype’s Aptly in lowercase letters.

When Darden Studio introduced Omnes Widths, we designed promotional graphics with condiment packs. These demonstrated how dry information like lists of ingredients can still be presented in ways that are readable and appealing alike. We’re thrilled to see such an application in the wild!

Bakken vol gevoel (“Baking full of feeling”) is a new book by Laura Verhulst, also known as Madam Baker. From publisher Borgerhoff & Lamberigts (translated):

Verhulst […] describes how baking offers solace in good and bad times: from joyful moments to periods of sorrow and loss. She finds comfort in the rhythm of kneading dough and watching baked goods rise in the oven. But equally, she hits the bake when there is something to celebrate. Together with therapist Rebekah Rogiest, she explores four emotions – joy, sadness, anger, and fear – each of which serves as inspiration for a chapter. In the very heart of Auckland, New Zealand’s biggest city, half way between Sky Tower and Victoria Park, sits Bowler, a contemporary eatery. As the name indicates, their specialty is breakfast and salad bowls, but they also offer coffee, cookies, and freshly prepared smoothies.

Fresh could also be the word to describe the visual communication of Bowler. Conceived by Studio 024, it’s based on a recognizable palette of earthy to radiant tones, a humorous selection of images, and a straightforward typography with cartouche-like obrounds around principle buzzwords.

Which brings us to the next fresh thing: the typeface Image Future, a fresh entry in Production Type’s still fresh Beta Program. Launched three months ago, the Beta Program offers more than 150 fonts, some of which have been in development for years but haven’t been officially released yet; others, like Image Future, very recent designs that the designers might not regard as quite completed. To access the Beta Program, (free) registration is required.

Image Future marks the entrance on the scene of type design of Guillaume Goron, a graduate of the prestigious École Estienne and ENSAAMA in Paris. His typeface family can be characterized as a geometric sans serif and spans a range of ten weights from Hairline to Black. Rather short ascenders and descenders allow for tight linespacing. The letterspacing is likewise very tight by default – a feature as much reminiscent of 1980s advertising as conveying freshness in today’s graphic design. Bowler exclusively uses the heaviest weight, Image Future Black.

Tu arrocero is a Spanish paella delivery service operating out of Valencia, Castellón, and Alicante. They also offer up “to go” items out of their storefront in Valencia.

The branding was designed by Ibán Ramón and features the condensed weight of Central Type’s Zonk. It’s supported by Dinamo’s ABC Favorit. The charming character (Rice Man?) featured in the branding bears a bit of a resemblance to Thumbody.

RezeptExperte (“recipe expert”) is a food blog dedicated to people with high triglyceride or cholesterol values. The typeface chosen for all text is Vercetti. The logo uses Alike.

Not many foods can boast the status of a cultural heritage. One of such proud delicacies is “ajvar”- the traditional roast pepper spread or a homemade jam made of healthy and sunbathed fruits adored throughout much of Southeast Europe. Strongly embedded in the Balkan’s gastro culture, both ajvar and jam have become symbols of the region’s well-known gourmet cuisine, loved and enjoyed in households across countries and in all seasons. Kopex is a micro brand that brings these domestic condiments to the table straight from the heart of Serbia’s famous Kopaonik mountain.

Most commonly, the colorful jars of cherished spreads are either found in vernacular packaging (i.e. reused jars with handwritten stickers) when made in a domestic setting or wrapped up in labels with traditional patterns and decorative motifs in a commercial context. This was our initial thought when coming up with the identity direction for the Kopex brand, deciding on the one that would bring a fresh prospect to the customary food niche.

Our first clue was to change how the jar is perceived- from a commonplace object to a more conceptual item by applying an eye-catching label with a thick oversized typography prompting a rotational gesture. The main information is noticeable even from the last aisle- that Kopex ajvars and jams are exquisite domestic products. As a counterbalance to the heavy typography, we doodled a few light sketches in the style of newspaper comic strips, with lively characters interacting with fruits and vegetables. For the website, we additionally animated this cheerful troupe to perform acts such as juggling peppers to entertain the visitors. The overall idea was to diverge from the conventional representation of traditional food products and offer a more daring design, the one that makes these fine products stand out of the crowd.

The primary typeface used is Rainer, paired with Manrope for the information on thes labels and illustrations by Nina Hadživuković Mrvoš⁠. Motion and photography by Nataša Stamatović⁠.

Studio Size coined the name “Umaki” by combining “umami,” the Japanese concept of savory deliciousness, with “umak,” the Croatian term for sauce. Umaki offers a range of raw sauces inspired by global culinary traditions, emphasizing umami flavors to elevate dishes to an international culinary standard.

The logo draws from the Japanese origin of “umami,” while the label design incorporates stylized national flags, hinting at each sauce’s unique flavor and origin. This approach not only helps consumers select their preferred sauce but also celebrates the diversity of global tastes and cultures, making them feel like travelers and taste tourists.

Kurversbrug from Retype Foundry and Tobias Frere-Jones’s Nobel (Frere-Jones) (a revival of Nobel, released in 1929 by Typefoundry Amsterdam) are the brand typefaces of Wellfound Foods. From design studio Polygraph:

After studying in Amsterdam, Wellfound founder Sarah “Frim” Frimpong decided to bring the culture of fresh on-the-go sandwiches back to her home in the States. Frim wanted the Wellfound fare to stand out in cafe food cases and clearly show their high-quality ingredients. We designed a bold, colorful brand and system of labels for Wellfound’s varied containers and food styles, featuring a block map of Amsterdam’s iconic Oude Centrum. The core element of the new brand is the beautiful display type Kurversbrug, designed by Ramiro Espinoza. The bold, modern sans is a revival of the letters that appear on the historic bridges of Amsterdam.

Gardulac (or Gar du Lac) is a botanical gin with a classic and fresh profile. The logotype is set in caps from Eros, with Selva Script used for “du”. The ingredients are added in Jugendreisen Small – with its curved open-bowl R, this typeface nicely complements Eros. Additional text is set in two widths of Interstate.

The label design, inspired by art nouveau typography, pays homage to the advertising posters tradition of Lake Garda since the 1930s. The yellow tone and the textured paper give the label an effect reminiscent of a real lemon peel.The identity is created by Davide Mosconi, Andrea Mastroluca and Federico Landini. Gabriel Cellini did 3D images. They've developed a product identity that uses elegant typographic compositions to express the exceptional quality of the product, its Italian roots, and the strength of the brand.

Intense notes of citrus and flowers blend with the delicacy of Lake Garda Lemons. The balsamic and resinous part of juniper supports the sip and connotes it clearly and distinctly. The freshness of cardamom and coriander is joined by the herbaceous note of olive trees grown on the shores of Lake Garda.
