The Batman Forever font was specifically created for the film by Massey Rafani of The Idea Place (the in-house ad agency of Warner Bros.) and Mark van Bronkhorst of MvB Design. It is used in the opening titles of the film, on posters, and in other advertising.

After the main opening titles, further opening credits use Trajan. The end credits of the film use Caxton.

For the first issue of 2019, W magazine decided to make it special with a retrospective of the previous year’s best performances. For this occasion, the magazine was published with seven different covers, all of them showing individuals who made this year exceptional, for the originality of the movies they were starring in, or in terms of sexual and racial diversity in the film industry. The Hollywood stars are portrayed by photographer Tim Walker.

This month’s choice for the cover type was a combination of Minotaur and Minotaur Sans by Production Type. Minotaur is used in tighly spaced letters from its Light weight, which gives a delicate impression of elegance, fitted to the many soft scenes of complicity shown in the photographs. The fragmentation of Minotaur’s curves hints at a Hollywood made of many different facets, heading towards a world that’s more diverse. Minotaur Sans provides a basis for the title: The eye-catching setting in tracked out lowercase letters takes the reader to a fantasy world, announcing already the main portfolio of the magazine, where Tim Walker staged the film stars in an eccentric universe with giant eggs and life-sized dolls. Minotaur Sans is additionally used for highlighting information, subtly emerging from the text block that’s otherwise set in Minotaur. The alternation of the two fonts are like two musical notes answering to each other in harmony.

Australia is a 2008 epic romantic historical drama film directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. The story is set between 1939 and 1942.

The title design brings together a number of fonts that echo this period: Radiant is a stressed sans serif designed by Robert H. Middleton for Ludlow between 1938 and 1941. Famous Label (Harold’s Fonts, 2001) is inspired by a piece of pen lettering found in J.B. Russell’s Alphabets: Ancient & Modern from 1945. The upright script is similar to Glenmoy (Stephenson Blake, 1932).

ITC Juanita (1996) is Luis Siquot’s “personal reinterpretation of some designs that originated in the 1930s and ’40s and were still popular during his childhood in the 1950s.” (U&lc Vol. 23 No. 3). It is paired with Black Tie (Scholtz Fonts, 2007), a loose reinterpretation of Bernhard Fashion (ATF, 1929).

The movie logo itself is probably custom and not based on a font. The sans-serif letterforms with pronounced contrast and abrupt changes from thick to thin recall Art Deco types like Ultra-Modern (Ludlow, 1928) or Modernique (ATF, 1928).

Just like the posters for Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster, those for The Killing of a Sacred Deer were created by Greek graphic artist Vasilis Marmatakis. The Toronto International Film Festival cites the latter as the fourth collaboration between Lanthimos and Marmatakis.

The movie poster shows centered credits, alternating Times and Nexa in a serif and sans-serif interplay. In the titles of the movie itself, this is further enhanced by using e.g. Times Italic for the name of the actor’s roles, Nexa in capital letters for the given name of the cast member, Times bold for their surname. The movie website further iterates the two fonts, including a simulated health test. The social media pages of the movie (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) also feature some graphic reinterpretations with horizontally stretched letters to emphasize quotes from reviews.
