This ad for Palmolive soap was published in the February 1928 issue of Photoplay magazine.

The tagline “Soap From Trees” is in Goudy Open. “Nature’s Gift to Beauty” is in ATF Garamond Italic, using the alternate swash N. Goudy Oldstyle is used for the body text. The subheadings use Cloister Italic.

ATF Garamond is also used for “Palmolive Radio Hour” and the following paragraph. The small text at the bottom right is in Goudy Italic.

Radix & Anima is a small café located in an old gatehouse on a former industrial site in Cologne, Germany. Their focus is on specialty coffee and vegan snacks. The café serves as a social meeting place for the neighborhood and also hosts cuppings, small concerts, and a running club.

To promote their iced coffees during the summer, Radix & Anima designed two eye-catching stickers in black and yellow. The larger sticker uses Attendorn and reads “Radix & Anima / Coffee Lovers”. The smaller sticker features an “RA” monogram logo and uses Before Paris. Both typefaces are from Azuliq Type. Customers can take the stickers for free, and they are placed on the to-go cups of summer drinks. The café values sustainability, but to-go cups are available upon request.

Buried Treasure!: Tales from Bikini Bottom is a compilation book published by Simon Spotlight in 2004. It contains six SpongeBob SquarePants stories: The Amazing SpongeBobini, Hands Off!, SpongeBob's Secret Valentine, And the Winner Is..., SpongeBob and the Princess, and Bottoms Up! Jokes from Bikini Bottom.

Querido muerto mío is a novel by Felipe Núñez Mestre, published by Rey Naranjo Editores, that delves into the complexity of the willingness to go to war and the fragility of bodies shaped for combat, set in an opaque Caribbean with shifting borders and a threatening sea. The story contrasts the weight of a childhood among corpses, a furious adolescence, and an adult life trying to find meaning amid the military, the pursuit of fortune, and death. The book’s visual concept was created by Raúl Zea, Isabella Viracachá, and Isabella Barajas as part of the Rey Naranjo Editores design team.

Logo as used on social media, with the Gaia Tree encircled by Halyard Micro

Darden Studio’s Halyard is the typeface for Gaia Tree, a brand of organic vegan treats.

In 2023, the Sydney-based business asked designer Renan Vizzotto to bring the visual identity to a new level. Vizzotto found inspiration in the tropical nature of Fiji, the founder’s homeland. For the typography, he combined two of Halyard’s subfamilies: Halyard Micro is specified for headlines and all larger applications, taking advantage of its eye-catching notches and tapering strokes. Smaller text is served in the pleasantly readable Halyard Text. Styles from both families work together throughout the identity, from the packaging designs to the website.

Why pick one? The website combines two of Halyard’s optical sizes; the Micro – here in all caps for the headline and in mixed case for the button label – with Halyard Text.

The boxes and pouches show the custom wordmark and the tree symbol, alongside text in Halyard.

The design takes inspiration from the nature of Fiji, with photographs and illustrations of the islands’ vegetation.

Desperate Oasis is a two player card game from the independent game studio Weast Coast.

To help promote the game after its release in November of 2024, Weast Coast unleashed this social media ad campaign. Like the game, the ads were designed by the brand and packaging studio Young Jerks.

The headlines for the ads feature Central Type’s Zonk set in all-caps. The secondary type features both School Project JNL and Goudy Two Shoes.

The long, graceful stems of ITC Anna seem to mimic the palm trees around this shop in Palm Springs, California. Unfortunately a couple of those letters look like they’re about to fall off like coconuts.

This is the debut studio album by the Japanese fusion band Kangaroo. They would only release four albums before splitting up in 1986. At the front cover, the typeface used for the album title is Boul Mich, while the band's name/logo is set in Plaza Inline.

At the back cover, the title tracks are set in Futura, while the music personnel is set in an italic variant of Helvetica. Lastly, the Japanese sans serif typeface at the bottom uses Ishii Gothic (石井ゴシック) by Shaken.

The artwork for “All Night” (January 2019) depicts a sunset sky over some palm trees, with stars above it.

Ikson is an independent music producer from Sweden. Since around 2018, the artwork for his releases show photographs of nature. The titles are set in Voga by Charles Daoud. Shown here are three singles released between 2019 and 2021.

Plage Paloma is a vintage thrift shop located in Paris and Lyon. The typography used for their visual identity is Jack's Maggot, designed by Simon Walker.

The business cards are printed on Colorplan paper with foil by Foilco and printed by ICB Imprimerie.

A 1973 poster for the reggae classic film The Harder They Come, starring Jimmy Cliff. The title treatment is set in Zipper, a Letraset classic. The curved type with Jimmy Cliff’s name looks to be photographically adjusted to better conform to the curve. Note the slight trapezoidal tapering towards the bottom of the letters. Compare the C, M, and Y glyphs in the name and title. The top quote on the poster is set in Helvetica and Bookman Bold Italic Swash, with the credit line set in Stymie. The quote uses hanging punctuation well! Trade Gothic shows up in small print at the bottom. The film critic quotes are typed on a typewriter. The border is a scotch rule (thick-thin-thick style) that could have been made using a dry-transfer process (not the slight misalignment where the curved corner meets the straight line. Letraset catalogs don’t show this style of border.

This poster is the “Style B” of the poster and differs significantly from the other promotional posters for the film, which are done in the blaxploitation style. The bottom left corner of the poster is meant for the placement of the details of the local theater screening the film.

Poster for a weekend of film screenings and meetings organized by the Météorites collective at the Théâtre de l’Élysée in Lyon, France. The second edition of Pluie de Météorites (“meteorite shower”) took place in March 2022.

Félicité Landrivon used a smorgasbord of fonts for her design, including three typefaces designed as part of the X Cicéro project. Affigere, Rosette and Égyptienne E were made at ESAD Valence, France, digitized from wooden typefaces available in the school’s letterpress printing workshop. “VSD” – which can stand for both “vendredi, samedi, dimanche” (“Friday, Saturday, Sunday”) and for “vidéo sur demande” (“video on demand”) is in caps from Frankfurter, with added horizontal stripes not unlike in Rock Opera.

Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children's picture book written and illustrated by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, originally published in hardcover by Harper & Row. The book has been adapted into other media several times, including an animated short film in 1973 (with an updated version in 1988); a 1980 opera; and a live-action 2009 feature-film adaptation. The book had sold over 19 million copies worldwide as of 2009, with 10 million of those being in the United States.

Sinatra in Palm Springs is a 2018 documentary film directed by Leo Zahn, starring Barbara Marx, Tom Dreesen, and David Cohen. From IMDb:

Palm Springs, a small desert oasis 100 miles East of Los Angeles was Sinatra's true home for 50 years. During his brief yet turbulent marriage to Ava Gardner his Palm Springs home was center stage. For the rest of his life, the Rancho Mirage compound on Frank Sinatra Drive, was the home he called “My Heaven”. Palm Springs still feels the ghost of Frank Sinatra.

The cover of the DVD (and Blu-Ray Disc) release by Shout! Media recently came up on fontid.co. It features a condensed sans in the American Gothic style, used in all caps with alternating line colors. Kevin Thompson identified it as Alpin Gothic. This typeface was designed by André Gürtler (1936–2021) of Team’77 as a modernization of ATF’s Alternate Gothic. It was released by Compugraphic in 1974, in at least four numbered styles plus one italic.

Alpin Gothic is distinguished from Alternate Gothic by a number of refinements: the bowl of a isn’t saggy, E and F have longer middle bars, the waistline of G was raised, the center of M doesn’t thin out as much, s and S have smaller apertures and perfectly horizontal terminals, and the ear in g as well as the tail in Q were made horizontal. A digital version, CG Alpin Gothic, was once available through Monotype, but is no longer shown at the time of writing.

Maystorm Studio was commissioned to develop a unique branding strategy for the 2023 Dam Safety Conference in Palm Springs. The project includes a full suite of digital media, event signage and print collateral, all unified under a color palette of cool blues and warm gradient tones that match the event's location and the organization’s existing brand. We used Noka as the bold main font, softened by a cursive accent font, Palm Canyon Drive, for a touch of vintage charm. The palette is completed by Ridley Grotesk. The cohesive and distinctive visual identity accurately represents the conference theme and objectives.

Cartagena Caribe is the final album by Wganda Kenya, a “Colombian latin afrobeat funk band from Medellin, set up during the 1960s by Discos Fuentes”, released in 1987.

The album art of both the vinyl and the cassette release features open and shaded caps that combine slab-serif top halves with bifurcated bottom ones. It appears to be a derivative of a 19th-century design that is known under various names, including Bracelet, Romantiques No. 5, and Tuscan Ornate. It’s not clear if they were custom drawn, or existed in prefabricated form, for example as dry transfer lettering alphabet. The band’s name is in ITC Souvenir. Most of the smaller text is printed in two widths of the IBM Selectric version of Univers.
